Review: "Be Yourself" - Colourshop

As we get caught up in our busy daily lives, it's easy to feel constant pressure to do more, to be more successful, and to strive for perfection. Colourshop, on the other hand, sees things a little bit differently. His new song, "Be Yourself", takes us on a journey of self-reflection in the most relaxing way possible. With the mantra, "Be yourself, nobody will do it for you", this track beckons us to step back, take a breath, and remember who we are. It helps us realize that it's okay to make mistakes. It's okay to be unpredictable. This song's humanistic tone shines as Colourshop sings, "I'll be around again for something beautiful". The word, "again", here emphasizes the idea that positivity in life comes and goes. It's a subtle sentiment that reminds us that it's easy to lose sight of what matters, and that's okay. We can always find it again.

The song begins with a somber acoustic guitar and a single voice. In the second half of the first verse, we are treated to the gentle addition of Rhodes piano. This addition is so soft that it's barely noticeable at first, but it's the perfect slow transition into a bright, cheery instrumental. The chorus features a steady drum beat and casual electric guitar that instantly transport us to a sunny day. The vibrant instrumental paired with mellow vocals feels so fresh, like spring returning after a long winter. The lyrics sync up beautifully, telling the story with warm, laid-back nostalgia. This song sounds like lying in the grass without a care in the world.

Colourshop is the musical brainchild of Alfredo Salvati and his brother, Diego. What started as a duo has since shifted into a solo act with Alfredo at the helm. This now London-based artist has the unique heritage and experience of being Italian-born with South American roots. His music career began with a second-hand, red guitar found in a thrift shop in a village just South of Rome. His curiosity for the instrument crossed with the varied musical influence of his parents brought us his signature sound. Alfredo would eventually move to London, where he found inspiration and further honed his craft as a musician and songwriter. Colourshop has since released several albums and EPs, garnering over 3 million streams on Spotify alone. His song, "You & Me", was featured on BBC Introducing in 2014. In 2019, he supported Tom Walker on his European tour and performed over 20 concerts across the pond in California. After a brief hiatus, Colourshop returned in 2024 with, "Be Yourself", which is now available to stream on all platforms.
