Dating in the modern world is a complicated nightmare filled with emotional turmoil. With new phrases like “situationship” and “ghosting”, it is difficult to determine which feelings are truly reciprocated and which feelings are falsified. In Bethia’s latest single, “Fake Feelings”, she calls out the emotionally unavailable people that have misled her in the past. In the song, she focuses on one specific partner, recalling the twists and turns that led to the bitter end. In the bridge, she lays out all her feelings by singing, “So far from a man, you don’t understand boy// Let you take my hand, still you up and ran boy// I was down to give my all// Like damn you’re so predictable.” She was ready to give this person her all by committing solely to them, just for that person to walk away with neither a warning nor an explanation. These vulnerable lyrics are relatable to thousands of listeners and allows them to release the same emotions Bethia released when writing the track. As a songwriter, it is her desire to appeal to the emotions and experiences of her listeners. “Fake Feelings” perfectly achieves this goal with meaningful lyrics that many people in this generation relate to.
Bethia has a strong admiration for pop and R&B, which is illustrated in “Fake Feelings”. The song is led by a synth melody that ebbs and flows throughout the track. This melody soothes the listener and makes them want to sway to the rhythm. The song is kicked off by the soft electronic keyboard before the beat even begins. Although the synth beat controls the tempo, it is the keyboard in the background that sets the song apart from those heard on the radio. This unique addition creates a whimsical element that transports the listener to another world. On top of the production, Bethia’s voice has a soulful element that ties the song together as an absolute masterpiece. Inspired by many powerful women in the genre, “Fake Feelings” proves Bethia’s potential to be the next IT girl in R&B Pop music.
