Review: "Fallout Shelter" - 102 Mangos

102 Mango’s debut single, “Fallout Shelter” perfectly captures the feelings of frustration and heartache that often come with being involved in an on-again, off-again relationship. The indie-rock single presents listeners with a catchy tune and dance worthy rhythm, despite being laced with emotional lyrics. The self-proclaimed two-man boy band consists of artists, SunShine Boy and Deadboii. The pair present compelling storytelling with lyrics such as, “We’re falling out again, we’re hanging off the edge”. 102 Mangos eloquently describe the relatable feeling of wanting to escape from a decaying relationship yet remaining unable to get them off your mind.

“Fallout Shelter” is introduced with soothing guitar strokes, accompanied by melodic humming. The addition of drums provides the single with a groovy rhythm that builds as the song progresses. 102 Mango’s inclusion of a unique mumbling style of singing, distorted vocals and acoustic guitar string noises establish an indie-punk sound. SunShine Boy and Deadboii showcase their distinctive, rich voices, both containing a subtle rasp which adds to the single’s edgy quality. The catchy chorus contains head-bopping percussion and smooth baritone vocals.

Formed in Orlando, Florida, 102 Mangos is an Indie-Alternative-Rock band. Their debut single, “Fallout Shelter” has already amassed over 8.3k streams on Spotify alone. The song has gained much traction due to its placement on Spotify curated playlists such as, New Wave Pop Punk, Alt-Indie, Anthems and Rockstars. Likewise, the band released their first line of “Mango Merch” on October 10th, 2022, which is available for purchase on Etsy. These up-and-coming musicians know how to create a cool and unique jam and clearly have a bright future in the indie music scene.
