Review: "Happy" - KSHMR (feat. Tiina)

If you’re a fan of electronic dance music that feels upbeat but contains a dark vibe then KSHMR’s new song featuring Tiina is exactly what you need to add to your playlist. KSHMR and Tiina collaborated again and released a new song called “Happy.” The duo put their all into this single and it shows. The song has club like beat makes you want to get on a dance floor while lyrically the song is about heartbreak . Tiina’s vocals are beautifully polished and compliment the track in such a vibrant way. The harmony stacks on some parts of this song are melodious and scratch just the right part of your brain. While the song feels dark, there is a strong sense of empowerment in overcoming heartbreak.

This song has vulnerable lyrics about feeling broken by someone and the confusion of healing from the aftermath. In the beginning Tiina sings “You take my heart for weakness, you cut me up and bleed me dry” expressing how deep the scar this person left is. “But don’t you know, big girls don’t cry” is where you feel the tables turn when it comes to feeling pain and moving on. The chordal progressions and melodic synths blend seamlessly with the story being told. The use of Phrygian mode is what gives the mystic yet dark feeling. My favorite line is “There’s beauty in the pain, I can see it now, even if I’m living a lie.” I think that really encapsulates how disorienting healing can be.
