It's that time of the year again! Poinsettias are filling up living rooms, families are planning holiday vacations, and kids are decorating cookies for Santa. Christmas, usually, is a classic and joy-filled time of the year, filled with love and happy memories. However, not everyone has a particularly nice time during the “most wonderful time of the year.” “It’s Not Christmas” is the latest single by artist ROSIE, and it delves into how sometimes, Christmas can feel pretty lonesome if you’re missing someone, and how it’s perfectly okay to feel this way! I love a good Christmas song, but I never really get to hear the sadder ones. I thoroughly enjoyed this song, and could sadly relate in a few different ways to the lyrics.
The elements of this song are so simple, yet so perfect. ROSIE’s voice is absolutely stunning, dripping with emotion, and completely drew me in. In the background, you can hear her hums harmonizing, which I think added a nice bit of depth. There also aren’t too many instrumentals! I could mainly hear the quiet strum of a guitar, but if you listen closely, you can hear sleighbells jingling. If you needed any more proof that this was the perfect moody Christmas song, then that should easily sell you. Every element of this song paired so well with one another. It immediately went into my Christmas playlist; queued right in between Michael Bublé’s Christmas and the Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album. The perfect ordering, in my opinion.
ROSIE is a 23-year-old singer and songwriter from New York. She first garnered attention on TikTok, where her single “Never the 1” was a breakout success. The initial video reached around 18 million views, and shortly after, Arista Records signed ROSIE for their label. ROSIE’s music resonates with millions, and her lyrics hit you deep in the feels. She has made a name for herself fairly quickly, with her songs about self-love and heartbreak having the ability to draw anyone in. She also recently wrapped up her U.S. headlining tour for her EP, 5 Songs for Healing. ROSIE is authentic, she has raw talent, and she is going to go extremely far. I loved this song, and I can’t wait to hear what she releases next.
