Review: "Months and Months" - John Conlin

Singer-songwriter John Conlin's newest single, "Months and Months," is an electro-pop banger about the difficulties of moving past a toxic ex. Conlin effortlessly captures the exuberance and life of euro-dance. With its pumping 4-on-the-floor beat and poppy synths, the track is an infectious earworm destined for nightclubs. Sonically, "Months and Months" sparkles with its bouncy pulsating production. The song is akin to the likes of Robyn and Troye Sivan. On Instagram and TikTok, John Conlin's bio is "Emotional Popboy." This completely translates in "Months and Months," as the track is equal parts pop anthem and emotionally resonant.

For as bright as "Months and Months" is musically, the track also shines songwriting-wise. Conlin tells the narrative of an ex-partner trying to re-initiate a relationship and the issues that would occur if they did. "Months and Months" is easy to dance to, yet meaningful and relatable when listened to closer. Conlin's lyricism is sharp, with strong storytelling capabilities. Lines like "Your face is starting to vanish....At the top of my screen / See your words, all in green / the panic fills up my head" create such a clear image that evokes those moments we've all faced where past feelings for someone begin creeping up again. The song's central message of not letting an ex back in your life is powerful; Listeners are bound to cheer when Conlin belts, "Been months and months since I've seen you / Let's keep it that way" in the chorus. "Months and Months" is an anthemic track perfect for screaming in the car when you need to vent or dancing the night away.

John Conlin is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter creating music in the pop and electronic soundscape. He began his musical journey at only four years old when he learned the piano and hasn't looked back since. Conlin debuted his first official single, "Radio Silence," in 2019 and has since continued to release singles including "Hopeless Romantic." "Your Car," "Something About Your Face," and "It Doesn't Matter." On Spotify, Conlin's discography has amassed over 26,000 streams. Currently, "Months and Months" has over 10,000 views on YouTube and 1,000 streams on Spotify. And with how catchy it is, the song is bound to take off even more. John Conlin is an up-and-coming artist whose music, including "Months and Months," can be listened to on all streaming platforms.
