Rita Ora has returned with her latest single, introducing her next era of music. “You Only Love Me” is a new level of vulnerability that she has never touched on in previous releases. She wrote the song during the beginning stages of her relationship with her husband. The song discusses the delicate period in a relationship when you love someone, but are unsure if they reciprocate those feelings. The pre-chorus introduces her fears with the lyrics, “I try, I try, and I try// To tell myself it’s alright// ‘Cause I’m terrified.” She then immediately follows up in the chorus with the hook: “You only love me when// The whiskey’s pouring// Four in the morning” and “You only love me when the// Night is over// No one to hold ya.” These lyrics reveal the anxiety-filled thoughts that run through her mind; That the one she loves only wants her when they are drunk and lonely, and not because they truly love and cherish her. This is a feeling that many listeners can relate to in their own life, and this song may be a sense of comfort for them. Courtney Paige Nelson’s latest single is a vulnerable track that tells her side of a heart-shattering break-up. “1-800-broke-my-heart” was written after Nelson discovered her ex-boyfriend had been cheating on her with his coworker. The track is a sense of closure for her, something she never truly got after the relationship ended. Nelson wears her heart out on her sleeve and holds nothing back through the candid lyrics. She does not hide behind metaphors and insinuations, but instead rightfully airs out her ex-partner’s dirty laundry. She begins hinting in the chorus, singing: “It was all over your face// Under her within a day// Played your joker card// But your bluff fell hard.” Then in the second verse, she drops the bomb: “I’d call that slightly evil, heartless, maybe a narcissist// Pre-mediated cheating with a girl that I fucking met.” She lays it all out on the table with that line, exposing his infidelity. Thomas Day holds nothing back in his compelling new single, “VICIOUS”. The emotional track describes the intense feelings of heartache and betrayal he experienced after a devastating breakup. Day transports the listener into his mind after he discovered that the one he loved had been lying to him. The vulnerable lyrics throughout the song provide an insight that only a brilliant songwriter can deliver. The verses offer detailed descriptions of the torment his partner put him through, while the chorus represents Day rising up through the ashes and setting himself free. Though the lyrics are about going through a silly fight with the person you love and just wanting to make up, the music itself gives a positive feel to the song. The overall soundscape feels influenced by legends like Queen and Elton John - featuring a strong piano line and prominent electric guitar throughout - but with Daisy The Great's own modern indie-pop twist and their signature captivating harmonies. This song takes you back to a time when all the instruments you heard were real and live instead of electronically produced. The music video features Daisy The Great and their band in a sequence of clips being themselves, having fun, goofing around and playing live shows. Watching them perform in this video allows you to take in the raw and real type of sound that they have as well as their incredible energy and stage presence. I have no doubt in my mind 'I Don't Wanna Fall' sounds amazing live, especially with the impressive guitar solo and again, those incredibly crafted and iconic harmonies. Daisy The Great is an indie-pop duo project created by singer-songwriters Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker. The Brooklyn, New York based friends began writing music together in 2016, releasing their first ever EP together in 2018, 'I’ve Got a Few Friends and I Wish They Were Mine'. Their single off of the EP, "The Record Player Song" gained traction on TikTok in 2019, gaining over 5 million streams. "Get Better" is an earnest song from artist Ari Rizzo. Ari's intentions are to create music that makes an impact, and connects with listeners. "Get Better", is a prime example of how Ari is trying to accomplish this, and accomplishing it well. "Get Better" is sure to tug on the heart strings because the song dives into the emotions following a breakup. More specifically the song tackles the feeling of loss, and abandonment. In the song listeners can also get the sense that there was an abruptness to the loss Ari faced. The song is also really successful at combining both the emotions of anger and acceptance. Ari is recognizing his past anger and confusion, while also accepting the current reality, and realizing he is better off. Ari Zizzo does a great job both mixing acoustic and raw sounds, with more electronic pop sounds. This shows Ari’s ability to use contemporary pop references, while also maintaining a unique sound. The tempo change from the verse to the chorus makes the transition an exciting and smooth one. The faster pace of the chorus really helps in delivering the emotional intensity of the song. This song is the perfect amount of pop and emotional, leading to a cathartic experience for listeners. Listener's are also given the space while listening to "Get Better", to feel all the feelings. "I don't really care if you ever get better", is the perfect lyric to scream post breakup. Ari Zizzo was born in New York, to his musical parents on the Upper East Side. He would attribute some of his inspiration to his parents among other artists. He began his journey with music at age four, and at thirteen he was itching to be an artist. Gigi Rich and HALLIE collaborated to create a high-energy track about all the things we wish we could do and say to our partner’s ex. Scott the Pisces describes 'Summer '22' as the song of the Summer, and I have to agree with him. You can't tell me you haven't done that at least once in your life. 'Summer '22' is the perfect song for that. It would also be perfect for a day at the beach or a night-time pool party. The more I listen to this song the more I can't wait to experience what this Summer is going to be like. Scott the Pisces is back again with BINX on a new collaboration. Immediately you are hit with sounds of ocean waves and seagull's in sky, accompanied by a rockin' guitar. The whole entire song is incredibly upbeat, there's no way you'll get through it without dancing. 'Summer '22' is going to be the ultimate anthem for this Summer! Can you tell us how this song came to be? Scott: Both BINX and I were in a place where we really wanted to create something that captured the essence of the summers we felt were stripped away from us all over the last few years. After previously working together for her single Sea Salt, I sent her over an instrumental I had produced and we began work on manifesting the anthem of the summer. BINX wrote the initial vocal idea, and after some back and forth, with me sending over vocal demos of new bits to add, such as vocal melodies, new verses; we found the perfect balance in creating that perfect pop sound. You and BINX are no strangers as this is your second collaboration together. What is it like working with BINX? Scott: It’s super fun to work with BINX, we’re both Pisceans which definitely helps us to have an outside the box approach to music. For me it’s super important to be able to trust an artist when you’re most vulnerable, especially when you can’t sing and have to send them an out of pitch vocal demo to explain an idea! BINX makes working on music super easy, she’s mega talented and I’m excited to work with her on future collaborations! How do you feel growing up in London has influenced you as an artist? Scott: Growing up in London exposed me to so many cultures, which absolutely influenced both my lifestyle preferences and musical background. I’m truly blessed to have had the experience of being surrounded by such a vast range of influences. There’s always a busker in all the main streets and train stations, you always hear different musical genres being played from cars passing by, or blaring out of someone's window when you walk past their house. I’m really grateful for how London has shaped me as a person and an artist. What draws you to the production side of music the most rather than, let's say, singing or lyrical writing? Scott: It’s funny you should say that because actually I do a lot of lyrical writing in the majority of my singles. 5 out of the 7 singles I’ve released so far I also wrote the lyrics to. My process usually begins at production, with me then writing and recording a vocal demo with a brilliant idea for the artist. On occasion you’ll hear my voice singing background vocals on records if you listen closely, I featured on my singles “On My Own”, “Perfect Summer” (which I rapped a whole verse), “Crazy About You” and briefly in the bridge of “Summer ‘22”. I’ve always been a musician, having learned to play guitar at the age of 8, and so the musical side of things always came first for me. I would spend hours simply listening to records, at a young age, likely analyzing all the individual melodies and elements. I attribute my love for music in general to why I find it comes natural for me. I guess the real reason you don’t currently find me singing lead vocals on my own songs comes down to the fact I’m not very good at the moment, but I would love to do a full project just me, myself and I one day! What would you say is the best advice you've ever received? Scott: My nan would always tell me that I was “Destined for greatness”, which isn’t necessarily advice but it has always been the motivation for me to push forward. A lot of wisdom that I’ve taken on as part of my mindset doesn’t usually come directly from the individual, but rather my interpretation of something I’ve overheard. One quote that comes to mind is “If you can visualize it in your mind, if you can believe in it, then you can achieve it” based upon the premise of manifestation. It’s important to have an open mind in this world for we truly know nothing of our existence. What music related goals do you have for the near future? Scott: I think my biggest goal at the moment is to have a number one single in the charts, that would be so awesome, and thanks to this latest single, it doesn’t seem like a pipe dream at all. In the near future to be able to quit working in hospitality and fully pursue music is the primary goal. I'd also like to spend a lot more time working on other artist’s projects; producing, writing, mixing. Lately I’ve been putting in a lot of work to build up my brand and image, strengthening all aspects of my ventures as a musician. "Attention" is so incredibly catchy! Can you tell us the meaning behind the song? Emarosa: Thank you, I think the song's intention is pretty clear. Good or bad, most of us just want attention. Want to be the center of attention, especially as an artist. In love, in life, one reason or another I’ve always wanted attention. I think a lot of people can relate to that but don’t want to be vulnerable enough to say it. Originally you were a metalcore band. What was the transition to more of a pop sound like for you all? What pushed you in that direction? Emarosa: To be honest this band made a metalcore EP & an album, roughly 15 years ago. I wouldn’t define the self titled as metalcore personally and anything once I joined the band was far from it. I think versus was a rock album, 131 was a rock/alternative album, Peach Club was a alternative/pop album and now our next endeavor is leaning much more pop/???. I think for those of us involved in the making of these albums and the most recent effort, the path has been pretty clear. I don't want to be making the same music I was making 15 years ago. I’m not the same person I was 15 years ago. I think a lot of people are stuck in their nostalgia and try to hold onto that past but time moves on and people grow/change. This band has evolved multiple times, I think what pushed us in this direction was just our musical tastes changing and wanting to do something different. I’m not scared to try something new. How did the band name “Emarosa” come to be? Emarosa: I wish I had a better answer for you but to my knowledge, its just a name that came up in conversation a long time ago that stuck. What is the band's songwriting process like and how do you begin new projects? Emarosa: The last two albums have really been a studio effort. ER and I send each other ideas back and forth but the album really usually takes shape in the studio writing with our producer. It’s a very eclectic writing style, we don't have just one way of doing things. Sometimes a 5 year old song might make the album and sometimes we write something on the spot and it ends up being one of the favorites. What has been one of the band's favorite live performances? Emarosa: Our last tour was completely sold out, I have memories on that tour that I will cherish forever. We’ve played to enormous festival crowds, we’ve played in front of 20 people on a hardcore tour we had no business on. It really all has its charm when you look back. I think we all love playing in front of family and knowing that they’re proud to watch us live out our passion. What's in store for the band in the near future? Is "Attention" part of a larger project? Emarosa: Attention is absolutely part of a larger project, we’ll have more singles this year and eventually we’ll let it all out but for now we just want to put out that music that represents where we’re headed. I'm in love with your song 'The Avenue'. Can you tell us what this song means to you? Zane: Thank you! It can mean a lot of things which is why I think a lot of people are resonating with it. To me, it's about trying to talk through problems with the person who is the problem, usually, they're not receptive and you're left wishing you never had the conversation at all. What is the music scene like in Alaska? Zane: Incredible, there are so many talented artists in Alaska. I truly believe Alaska could explode like how Seattle did in the 90s, people just need to catch on. What made you decide to become a musician? Zane: I started shooting music videos and concert recap content for local artists I'm in a collective with. Music has always been a big part of my life and I've always wanted to pursue it but never had the courage, but seeing my friends up there on stage really motivated me to give it a shot. I think if I can inspire people like how I was inspired by my friends, it would be a good life lived. Who are some of your biggest influences and why? Zane: Oh man I'm just gonna name like a list haha, I'm inspired by so many people, I find a new person or thing to be inspired by daily. Right now it's Toro y Moi, Alex G, 070 Shake, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, Faye webster, Lomelda, Medium Build, Paramore - just to name a few lol I absolutely love them all. If you could perform at any venue anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why? Zane: It's a big dream of mine to have a big ole show at the Performing arts center in Anchorage because I've been going to shows there since I was tiny. But besides that probably Red Rocks for obvious reasons haha. What's coming next for you in your music career? Zane: More music soon!
