“Gravity” is a powerful pop anthem about forging your own path, nothing holding you back. Sometimes, it’s all too easy to give up and succumb to the crowd, but Söderberg makes sure that we’re living with no regrets. While sometimes the safe option seems to blend in with the crowd, Söderberg reminds us to make our own choices based on ourselves, rather than how we might be perceived. It’s ok to make mistakes, because “you live and you learn”. The highlight of this song is the powerful chorus that Soderberg delivers; her soaring voice paired with a catchy chorus makes for quite an earworm. Throughout the song, Söderberg's voice rises and falls, accenting the emotion of suddenly breaking free and on your own. The music is bouncy and upbeat, carrying a general feeling of accomplishment and joy to the soundscapes. During the pre-chorus, the sound of claps creeps in as they serve as the backdrop of Söderberg's triumphant chorus. Hanna Söderberg, a Swedish-born singer-songwriter born in Gothenberg, is a lyricist and vocal coach. Learning piano and voice at a young age, Söderberg began studying gospel and jazz music before obtaining her Masters of Education from Malmoe Academy of Music, profiling in rock and pop music. Writing and releasing music with a diverse cast of artists, from kpop to latin pop and Swedish house, Söderberg decided to pursue her solo artist career. "I'm bleaching those red flags white tonight!" is the common phrase on Liv Charette's hot new single titled "Red Flags White" which revolves around the red flags that wave around a relationship and trying to conform with the red flags by turning the canvas to white and starting over. Everyone is in the negative in a relationship and sometimes we have to change the synesthetic-esque color of the companionship by either agreeing to start over and break bad habits OR agreeing to break up altogether. Most relationships create those red flags BUT it's how we escape those zones of red that can lead to the stage of solace and then the stage of peace again. This song is a disco-pop jam! The synthesizers being used from start to finish in the song are upbeat and injects so much enthusiasm into the instrumentation of the song. Liv has so much range with her vocals and sings very heartfelt about getting out of these bad habits and bad relationships. The repetition of the chorus creates a great catchiness to a fragment of the tune near the end and the rhythm of the instrumental fits so well together with Liv's vocals. NO RED FLAGS HERE! Liv Charette is a Canadian-American singer and songwriter who has called the Music City of Nashville, Tennessee home for a while. I can’t get enough of your new single, “Believe”! It has been on repeat since I first listened. Can you share what inspired you to write this track and a bit about the songwriting process? jolle: It's about my dad who got into alcohol addiction when I was younger, I realized I’ve been dealing with this situation ever since and had to write about it to get peace with how I am supposed to handle the situation. My best friend Benjamin Asare helped me talk about it and rewrite what my family and me are feeling about this. What made you get into music in the first place? jolle: My Problems. I used to be sad a lot and not really digging for what the reason was. So I started writing and it helped me a lot to figure out where the bad thoughts came from. My biggest luck was that most of my friends were already into creating music and producing so they started the process with me. You have such INCREDIBLE fashion sense! Who or what are your influences when it comes to your style? jolle: THANK YOU. This is so sweet. Definitely Peggy Gou and pretty much every strong women who bravely rocks a loud and colorful style. What is your favorite thing about performing live? I had such a hard time being away from live music the last few years and I’m so grateful for live gigs again! jolle: To be honest, I was kind of thankful to not have to. I started music while the pandemic was going on so I was kind of happy that I had a little bit of time to get used to the idea of performing on stage. But meanwhile I played my first gigs and I have to admit it's pretty awesome - so I am excited for everything to come. Who would you say are some of your biggest influences when it comes to your music, sound, and songwriting? jolle: When I was younger I was obsessed with Ellie Goulding, daughter, RY X and Bon Over. They were my first relation to Indie and Electro Pop. Atm moment I am obsessed with Tate McRea - she is just gorgeous. Oh and Billie Eilish of course - especially when it comes to fashion. What does the rest of the year look like for you and your music? After hearing this new single, I can’t wait for more! jolle: So happy to hear! The next single "Blue“ is dropping 20th May. It's a very special release for me because its a duet with my beloved friend Benji Asare aka. KINGLX who helped me writing the whole EP. As twenty-somethings, nothing brings us together more than losing touch with the people we care about. With everyone moving on in different directions and changing with the times, we often only have ourselves. We can feel lovesick. ‘Like I Don’t Know You’ by Chris de Sarandy details that feeling as though we’ve been experiencing it for a lifetime. “Trying to chase after everything we were looking for; like I stood up in a coma, stumbling over how I don’t recognize you no more.” Even as relationships fall apart, we often don’t want them to end. We can’t control it, but that doesn’t stop us from hoping...or hurting, wanting to embrace them again. Hold onto that desire as you listen to de Sarandy sing. Chris de Sarandy’s vocal control is one in a million. In the verses, he slowly builds from soft lows with a raspy, soulful tone to a chorus where he shows off a powerful belt. In the last third of the song, as he unveils the rawest emotions in his lovesickness, a passionate grittiness takes over. “I keep trying for you, can’t keep relying on you, I keep smiling for you.” With a booming bass and echoey harmonies in the background, it’s like de Sarandy is begging for things to work out, even though it’s inevitable that they won’t. That jab to the heart reminds me of the trope of the hero’s ultimate sacrifice to safe the world; a painfully difficult decision, but also a worthwhile one. This song is undoubtedly stunning! Chris de Sarandy is a 24-year-old artist from southwest England. He got his start 10 years ago when he joined an indie band. After transitioning to a solo pop project, he moved to London to study Graphic Design at the famous BRIT School, following in the footsteps of pop icons like Jessie J and Adele. Eventually, he made his way to Germany, where he was later signed to Berlin’s independent label Embassy of Music. His 2nd single ‘Like I Don’t Know You’ follows the rising success of his debut single, ‘Good Girl, Sad Boy.’ As someone who’s grounded in authenticity and a uniquely versatile voice, de Sarandy can propel his message to the top of everyone’s priority lists! Your new single “Accident” truly shares the reality of heartbreak, it’s so incredibly well done. Can you share the story behind this new track? QUIETLOVE: This song has had quite the journey thus far, let me tell ya. My friend Mike Bilenki and I wrote the song back in 2018 when I had just moved to Toronto. We wanted to write about the feeling of being a mistake and the emotional fallout that comes with it. Searching your girlfriend's ex just felt so relatable. We instantly fell in love with it, I’m so glad it’s made its way into the world. When did your love for music begin? Did you always know you wanted to pursue being an artist one day? QUIETLOVE: I think I’ve always wanted to be an artist/entertainer. Sounds cliche, but it’s true. I used to watch my favorite bands' tour DVD’s and dream of being in their shoes one day. Perform concerts for my parents in the living room. It’s always been in me. If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would you pick and why? QUIETLOVE: Definitely Charlie Puth, Timbaland or Benny Blanco. Pretty self-explanatory. 1. They’re all hit makers, and 2. I honestly think we’d create something special. They’re all so talented in their own ways. Out of all your live performances, which would you say is your favorite and most memorable to date? QUIETLOVE: So many memories, so many favorites. I got to perform at a TEDx event that was filmed for their YouTube channel with over 34 million subscribers. So wild. Playing Yonge-Dundas Square (the Canadian Times Square) in my city of Toronto was also a huge milestone for me. They all have their moments. If you weren’t pursuing music, what do you think you’d be doing right now? QUIETLOVE: I think I’d still be in a creative position… possibly in film/TV or a writer. “Perfect” is a hauntingly beautiful indie-pop song about perfection; though perfection is beautiful and knowingly unachievable, Ward can’t help but crave it. Everything is always harder than it seems, and the word perfection is laughably easy compared to actually achieving it. No matter how close to perfection you may be, it’s never enough because there are always things to improve on, even if this improvement begins to stagnate after a long period of time. So is it pointless to chase after perfect things? To want to be perfect? Ward brings us thoughtful commentary on her idea of perfection and this conundrum. Stunning listeners with the swell of the angelic chorus before descending into a somber chord, “Perfect” showcases Ward’s throaty and mature voice, full of emotion yet breathy at the same time. The strum of the guitar in the background pushes her voice forward, adding texture to her wispy voice. "You got me feeling like you're a holiday; sunshine coming through AND I can't complain" is the chorus on Alessandra Boldini's hot new single titled "Holiday" which dives into the feelings of joy and glee that you get from relative success and happiness that surrounds you. This song has a lot of motivation towards individualism and how you can utilize it to find what makes your life feel like a celebration whenever you do something good for yourself. I think with her own uncertainties, Alessandra is portraying that she has made to where she wants to be in her life with obvious room to improve and expand for everyone in the world. There's a tie to a good standing relationship as well. Wow! Beautiful vocals on the song! Alessandra sounds like an angel yet still sounds like a singer who is persuading and demanding the audience to listen to every word that they have to say while maintaining a vast range in the vocal ability. I love the orchestral fragments that play out throughout the song including the chorus where the staccato strings go crazy but still sync up to Alessandra's energy and vocals. This song has such a nice upbeat tempo throughout and it's a perfect jam for the club or the bedroom. Alessandra Boldrini is an Italian-British singer and songwriter who moved to the UK to take her music to the next level! Alessandra has released multiple singles that have gotten above average acclaim including the singles "La Isla Bonita" AND "One More Night" being highly acclaimed in the discography. I will walk across the stage at college graduation one week from today. I have spent the last 4 years working tirelessly towards a degree. Now that I have fulfilled all of those requirements, I have to use that knowledge to make something of myself. Unfortunately, I am unsure about what I want to do. Going into the unknown can be scary. At the same time, there’s no way around it. In her song “Cold Water,” KØLEEN writes about jumping headfirst into the unknown. One notable aspect of the song is its progression. The song starts out calm and slow as KØLLEN sings, “you always told me to be brave, that I can make it my own way. As the song continues, the music speeds up and KØLEEN sings “I’m gonna jump right into cold water.” The first part of the song is the musical representation of fear. In other words, the music illustrates KØLEEN fearing the unknown. As the music picks up, the listener can imagine a “jump” into cold water (AKA: the unknown). With that, I thought “Cold Water” demonstrated a cool way of using music to tell a story. KØLEEN was born in Austria. If you want to hear more of her, “Where Are You” is a song about her search for lost love. If you want to hear a different side of her, “Be Yourself” is a little more upbeat. Congratulations on the release of your new single “Spoils of War”! It is for sure one of your best. Can you share the story behind this track and what inspired you to write it? stef: I was going through a really hard breakup last August and I wanted to write a nostalgic coming of age piece that represented my healing, but also demonstrated that you can be hurt and healing at the same time. I was also currently watching the show Maid on netflix which is a series shedding light on domestic violence. I have never been in an abusive relationship but many of my friends have suffered from DV so the second verse is inspired by that show. What does your songwriting process look like? Does it follow a similar pattern or is it different every time? stef: Songwriting for me is very different every time! It comes in all forms for me. If you could play a show anywhere in the world or at a certain venue, where would you pick and why? stef: I am excited to play MSG in a few years, Coachella, and also red rocks looks like such an awesome venue. Any recommendations on places to visit while in Nashville? I’m visiting soon and I love asking artists who live there what they recommend! stef: Yes! You have got to go to Urban Cowboy/ Public House. They have the best drinks and also you have to get the pizza- get the “sam special” with ranch! Rosemary is one of our favorite bars to dance at, there is a line but it goes fast and worth it. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not performing or making music? stef: I also resell vintage full time. I have built a platform of almost 200,000 people doing that. I stay busy, that is for sure! What do we have to look forward to from you later this year?! After hearing this new track, I can’t wait to see what you do next :) stef: I am continuing to release a whole new ep! "NAMELESS; though in my mind we're always famous" is the lyricism on Mishell Ivon's hot new single titled "NAMELESS" which has some really damn good points about self-love and self-pride but also wanting to become existent into society. You may meet a person at a bar and they could become your nameless lover OR you might feel down on yourself hence the feeling of being "nameless" itself. For decades, hate and prejudice has been carried out against certain facets of society who do as much as good as everyone else and they sometimes are not given credit on their name when it's due. AMAZING MESSAGES HERE! WOW! The production that Mishell and her band have done on this song is so funky and bouncy it really provides that nostalgia that many had from the peaks of neo-soul and the eras of Soul Train. I love the cadence of Mishell's vocals as all of the vocal layering rides so well with the instrumentation in a very harmonic way. Oh, and don't forget MishelI's vocal range. The smooth yet funky bass brings that element of surprise to the song before, during AND after the fragments of the chorus as well as those spacey synthesizers that is so "nu-wave-esque". Just like the ending of the song; AND THAT'S ENOUGH! Mishell Ivon is a German-American singer, songwriter, actress AND artist of vast multitudes and skills who has a 20 year expertise in the industries of art and music. Mishell brings that glow and vibe to the pop scene with elements of funk, neo-soul AND electropop showing up on majority of her catalog. Manda Malina is back again with an empowering and catchy pop hit, “fuck myself”. This song focuses in on female sexuality and empowerment, it’s about how you should know your own body and appreciate yourself. So many times, as females, our world revolves around men or our partner. We tend to get in a mindset that we should rely on them for most everything, even when that comes to our sexual lives. However “fuck myself” is a good reminder that you don’t need a man, or another women, to make you feel good, especially when it comes to sex. You’re perfectly capable of doing everything on your own and you don’t need anyone! “Fuck myself” starts out with subtle bass lines in the synths and mainly focuses on Manda’s sweet, smooth vocals. Manda Malina’s voice sounds like a combination of Ariana Grande and Peach PRC, creating a very fresh vocal sound. The chorus picks up and the synths change the melodic line to be more in your face. It very much makes you feel like you need to be dancing or acting like your modeling. My favorite lyrics were in the chorus when Manda sings, “So I’ll go fuck myself/ yeah I can do it better”. I just think this part is so girl boss and empowering because like hell yeah you can do it better! You go girls, get into it and show everyone how iconic you are, you don’t need a man! Manda Malina is a rising Swedish pop star having found success in the industry after placing in the h Top 7 of Swedish X factor in 2012. From there, she’s performed her own original song, “Glow” on Eurovision and continued to write original songs that have placed in top chats on iTunes. Manda Malina is a queer/LGBTQ+ artist who makes it her goal for listeners to embrace their sexuality and feminine power. Malina is spreading the messages that need to be heard right now and is doing so through hit Y2k pop songs. You don’t want to skip out on anything from Manda Malina! An author named Rachel Vincent said: “Whoever said it is better to have loved and lost than never loved was full of crap.” When you lose someone, there is a kind of immediate sadness that overtakes you. After a while, the initial shock will fade, but the pain still lingers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much to bring it back to the surface. If you never loved, than there would be no pain to feel. In her song, “Cold Blood,” Etaoin sings about regret and the recollection of pain. One aspect of the song that stood out to me was Etaoin’s voice. It is crisp and passionate. You can tell that she really put her heart the lyrics. I also liked how her voice blended with the music. The only instrumentation used was the strumming of an acoustic guitar. It was light and happy against the heavy subject matter of the lyrics. The element did surprise me, but it ended up sounding really good. Etaoin is from London. If you liked “Cold Blood,” you should check out another one of her songs called “Pale Damp Cheeks.” It has the similar sound of somber lyrics being complimented by an airy guitar strum.
