Laughter from the Other Room is the second half of a two-part EP series, following Wingtip’s 2023 project, Get Well Soon. Both releases were written at the same time, over the course of the beginning, middle, and end of a relationship. Throughout the two EPs, Wingtip explores the ups and downs of the emotional rollercoaster he endured. Regarding Laughter from the Other Room, he has stated that “the songs on this EP are about confusion and mixed feelings.” The clever title is a nod to him "feeling a part of something but not inside it anymore," as if he is on the outside listening in. Through each of the five tracks, he shares his experience with open honesty, showcasing his authentic songwriting.

Last to Know
Wingtip kickstarts Laughter from the Other Room with his gut-wrenching track, “Last to Know”. Despite the upbeat, energetic production, the devastating song details the singer’s experience about being blindsided by the end of a relationship. Throughout the song, he pours out his heart as he asks his partner why he was the “last to know” that they were over. It seems that everyone around him knew she had moved on and planned to end the relationship. In the chorus he asks, “If you knew it was over in August, why was I the last to know?” This line indicates that his partner knew for months, and yet she still strung him along. As the lead single and first track of the project, this song immediately propels the listener into the EP's overarching theme of heartbreak and sorrow.
Boyfriend
“Boyfriend” maintains the upbeat, indie-pop production but with a more positive storyline. With a catchy rhythm and infectious hook, Wingtip tells his muse that he does not want to just be her boyfriend or her future, but he wants to be her man and her plans. He does not want to just me a small part of her life that she will eventually move on from, but a full commitment that will endure life’s unpredictable ups and downs. The song has a very bouncy and lively production that the listener cannot help but want to sway along to. Wingtip effortlessly captures his audience with this track. As the second single from the project, the artist hinted that Laughter from the Other Room would touch on a range of different emotions, making the EP a relatable soundtrack for every listener.
There You Are
“There You Are” was the third and final single released prior to the EP. The song strips down the project to a more melancholic soundscape, matching the somber storyline. Wingtip explores the aftermath of a failed relationship and the unrelenting heartbreak he feels. He begins the song with the lyrics: “I’ll keep the kettle warm for you// I do my sheets the way you taught me.” These two lines set the tone that his partner left a lasting impact on him. However, as he continues, it is quickly revealed that his partner is no longer in his life as he sings, “But I’m still learning how to catch my breath since you left.” Throughout the song, his voice conveys the intense level of heartache through his evident passion and soft falsettos. Between the soothing indie-pop instrumentation and candid lyrics, “There You Are” instantly became my favorite of the five tracks.
Nothing To Lose
The EP’s soundscape kicks back up in “Nothing To Lose” as Wingtip explores a new theme—hopeful longing. The song follows the artist’s desire to fall deep into love with his muse, professing his deepest desires. He states that he knows everything about her, all her quirks and jokes, and she has seen all of his “bad sides.” He professes that they have “so much” in common. It is as if she is his missing puzzle piece and they were made to fit together. Throughout the track, he implores the subject to love him and miss him “like there’s nothing to lose.” He wants to let go of any fears holding them back and dive into this whirlwind of a romance. These lyrics are a stark difference from the previous tracks, showcasing a more hopeless romantic side of Wingtip.
Something’s Holding me Back
“Something’s Holding me Back” delves deep into Wingtip’s fear of heartbreak and sorrow. Throughout the song, he describes a new relationship where he is deeply in love but he is afraid that it will only end in his heart being shattered. He admits that he cannot pinpoint why he thinks this will happen, but it “must be something” his partner said. This illustrates the unrelenting anxiety of entering a new relationship after being left blindsided by the last. There is no logical reason for him to feel this way, as his partner has not done anything to indicate she will leave, and yet he cannot shake this feeling. His poetic lyricism flawlessly encapsulates this relatable experience, making it a song that easily resonates with listeners. With the soothing guitar-led soundscape, the song effortlessly lulls the audience as Wingtip closes his project with a track that wraps up the complete story of his heartbreak.
Laughter from the Other Room is a well-rounded, dynamic project that is perfect for fans of indie-pop. Through each song, Wingtip explores different themes—from hurt and sorrow to hope and longing. The artist’s remarkable songwriting is highlighted with each track, while his raspy, yet soothing vocals mesmerize the audience. Each song works cohesively together to share one overarching storyline. With the meticulous details Wingtip injected into the EP, Laughter from the Other Room is another flawless project added to the singer’s remarkable discography.
