sunkis’ latest single “All For You” is not only a pop/ R&B banger, but it’s also the kind of song that women hope men would take notes from. In a nutshell, the song is about wanting to give someone what they truly deserve, even though certain circumstances aren’t exactly making that a possibility. While the song’s upbeat vibe creates a fun, lighthearted ambiance, the lyrics tell a much deeper story of an all too familiar situation. The idea of yearning for someone that you know isn’t available is a difficult feeling to cope with. The pre-chorus, which features impassioned lyrics like, “Ohh what does it look like to be treating you right // I’ll be whoever you need every night // What do you need from a man in your life // Yeah you just need someone who puts in the time,” truly showcases the devotion of someone who is willing to put in the work and show up to create healthy relationship.
“All For You” perfectly blends a catchy pop melody with a subtle 90s R&B inflection to create a timeless track. The beginning of the song draws you in immediately with a bit of a slow, sensual pulse and then quickly jumps into a bass heavy beat that carries throughout the nearly two-and-a-half minute long single. Yet, even with the infectious beat, it’s sunkis’ voice that resonates the most. With every word he sang, his voice seamlessly weaved through each section. It’s rare nowadays to come across an artist that doesn’t quite remind you of anyone else, and it’s clear that sunkis is in a league of his own.
Pop/ R&B can be a hard genre to master, but sunkis has done it with ease. The Chinese-American born artist has amassed over 1.5 million Spotify listeners with his genre-blurring sound and silky smooth bilingual swagger. His debut single “I Could” came out in 2019, but it was his 2021 single “trust me” that made a significant splash in Asia, garnering over 500 million streams across Asian digital service providers (DSPs). This feat opened up many opportunities for sunkis, including headlining spots at major Chinese festival stages like “SoulPop” and “Sunrise.” His commitment to singing in both Mandarin and English also boosted his popularity in the U.S. and Canadian markets. Coupled with the artist’s growing social media presence and a string of successful college shows across the U.S., sunkis has continued to grow his musical presence in the pop/R&B world, and has also nabbed collaborations with high-end fashion brands like Gucci, Burberry, Chanel, and more. With an ever growing fanbase behind him and an upcoming North American tour in the works, it’s apparent that sunkis’ future in pop/ R&B is eternally bright.
