Review: "Antidote" - Dasie

Staying during the roughest parts of a relationship can crush your spirit, but “Antidote” by Dasie in her newest EP Modern Mona Lisa can lift you back up! This ending track tells the tale of going through the nitty gritty. The fighting, the problems, and the lack of communication can be so overwhelming. Even with the downs, she reminds listeners that we are no antidote to those problems! As much as we love a person, we can only do so much. Dasie sings of this, with the second verse spilling everything: “If I could I’d carry/All the trauma you’ve buried/But you and I both know/There’s only so much I can take/You question your existence/And you fight your inhibitions/But even when it’s heavy I will stay”. Dasie explains that, even through the rough times, stick through in the name of love!
The strumming guitar starts the song of with a country-like vibe, following into the petty pop feeling. The snaps echo gracefully in the background, letting Dasie’s vocals shine throughout. The baby piano in the bridge flows into the lullaby vocal flow that is the chorus, creating a poppy atmosphere. In the second half of the song, the synth bells and the vocal layers give that flare to make the song picturesque. The minimal bass lets the song float peacefully, with light tone hanging out in the background. All of these elements add to a perfect ending to this EP. Capping the song off, the reverse white noise for the ending gives a great dramatic cliffhanger, making me want more.
Dasie is an indie pop singer/songwriter based out of Nashville, Tennessee. As a little kid, she wrote songs in her hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated with a degree in Commercial Music, focusing on Vocal Performance and Songwriting at Utah Valley University. She then moved to Nashville to pursue her songwriting and artistry formation. Her music is inspired by artists like Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Julia Michaels. Dasie has over two thousand listeners on Spotify, growing her platform with covers, songs, and EPs.
