Review: "Bad Dreams" - Katie Belle

“Bad Dreams” is about singer Katie Belle’s struggle with insomnia, and how music has helped alleviate the condition. Insomnia is a sleep disorder, characterized by the inability to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up sufficiently late. Katie Belle has turned her struggles into an emotionally vulnerable song. This track will no-doubt touch the hearts of many who have experienced countless nights of tossing and turning. It is so inspiring to see an artist rise above their struggles and create something that may soothe the hearts of audience members that struggle with the same condition.
The introduction to “Bad Dreams” includes a groovy guitar with a light synth melody. There is a riser into the first verse as well as the introduction of upbeat percussion. The pre-chorus includes a bouncy synth. The chorus starts with a thinner instrumental leading into an addictive beat drop. The second chorus has a backing track that is reminiscent of a disco. In a magical shift of mood, the bridge has echoey vocals underneath the main melody of the bridge, along with an ominous drone, before shifting back to the excitement of the chorus. Although this song will, without a doubt, make you want to dance, this track does a magnificent job of balancing an addictive sound with emotionally vulnerable lyrics.
Katie Belle is an American pop artist, singer-songwriter, model, actor, and voting member of the Recording Academy from Atlanta, Georgia. She performs there regionally as the lead female vocalist of the band “Color the Night Band”. Her 2025 singles “Bad Dreams” and “Cigarette” were released in anticipation for her EP titled “People Pleaser”, scheduled to be released later this year. Katie Belle also spends studio time in Los Angeles, honing her writing skills to release more stunning music for her listeners. If she keeps combining addictive melodies with heart-striking lyrics, there is no-doubt that she will build a lively community surrounding her music, and I, personally, cannot wait to see it happen.
