Have you ever been in love but fallen into the cycle of impending doom? Wanting to cherish every moment with someone but the lingering thought that it’s going to end follows you into every room. There’s something unsettling about a love song that questions forever. Kelly McCafferty leans into that discomfort where devotion and doubt coexist in her new single “Blue.” Her soft yet powerful vocals are full of feeling mixed with quick guitar melodies to showcase the worries of it all. She encapsulates all it is to hope for happy endings but predict they aren't real. It's an anthem for all the anxious girlies that stay up late at night pondering every outcome.
Kelly said she wrote “Blue” about falling deeply in love and the immense sadness that comes with having something to lose. It’s that paralyzing fear that breaking up, falling out of love or getting cheated on is going to happen to you. We see and experience heartbreak throughout our lives and it’s easy to get stuck in the “it happened before so it will happen again” mindset. The thoughts are toxic yet consuming and no matter how deeply in love you are they sit with you. “Will love run out even if we meant it.” Kelly’s vulnerable lyricism reflect on how haunting this can be and the effects it has on oneself. If you’re one to watch an imaginary clock wnd wait for it to run out, “Blue” is the song for you.
Kelly McCafferty is a singer-songwriter based in Pittsburgh. She crafts warm, intimate indie-pop tracks inspired by artists like Gracie Abrams and Lizzie McAlpine. Her writing is open and honest, putting every piece of her emotions on the table. She released her debut single “Next to You” in 2016, but came back with “All I Want to Know” in 2022. Crafting a sound that was unique to Kelly, she released her debut EP “Texas Heat” in 2025. Since then it’s gained over 50,000 streams and marked her spot in the Pittsburgh music scene and gained amazing opportunities to share her craft.
