Review: "Buy More Time" - Darla Jade

Long distance relationships are often the bane of a touring musician's existence. It's a difficult challenge trying to maintain a sense of normalcy in life when you're constantly on the road, busy networking, or in the studio, separated from loved ones. There's always feeling of pain or longing when miles upon miles come between you and your significant other. Darla Jade captures these feelings in her new single, "Buy More Time." Giving insight into the track's meaning, Jade states “It's written around the concept of wishing I could buy more time with my partner, as I don’t get to see him as often as I would like due to us living across the country, so it’s definitely a song for all the couples out there that are in middle/long distance relationships. Around the time of writing the track I had watched the film ‘In Time’, written and directed by Andrew Niccol, which depicts time as the currency on how you are paid, etc., and I just found the concept really fascinating.” Jade follows in the footsteps of musicians before her who have struggled with navigating these complicated relationships, having similar messages intertwined in their songs. Though the sentiment is present in hits like Journey's "Faithfully," "Buy More Time" offers a fresh new spin with Jade's finessed electro-pop sound.

"Buy More Time" is an upbeat, infectious track filled with memorable melodies and lyrics. Though the bittersweet lyrics narrate Jade's longing to be closer to her partner, the song's energetic demeanor is sure to pick you up if you're feeling blue. "Buy More Time" is driven by peppy electro-pop beats, giving an infatuating backdrop to dance along to. Jade's light, crisp vocals are mesmerizing, captivating listeners from start to finish. Staying true to her refined sound, "Buy More Time" is enveloped in a dreamy, synth-laden soundscape that's infatuating to listen to. Jade describes her sound as a futuristic take on '80s music, something "Buy More Time" embodies well. Any fan of '80s pop or electro-pop would love this track and have it playing on repeat.

An impressive electro-pop vocalist, writer, and performer, Darla Jade has been making waves in the music industry since 2020. The UK-based artist has caught the attention of many with her first two EPs, situating herself within the global pop world. Some of her many achievements include winning Amazon's 'Breakthrough Booth' competition at The Great Escape 2022 and having her single, "Stories On The TV," featured on BBC Radio 1, naming it BBC Introducing Track of the Week. Some of her popular releases include "Ghost In Me" and "Broken Armour." Jade regularly writes for other artists and has been featured on numerous tracks. One of her notable features is on BLOND:ISH & Nico de Andrea's "Hold Tight."
