Choosing to prioritize a deeper relationship with herself over a budding possibility for romance with a longtime friend, "Call Me," by Annika Rose comes as the opening track to her upcoming EP, READ ALL ABOUT IT. Rose wrote this song alongside seasoned collaborators about entering her first season of singlehood after years of knowing herself only within the context of being someone's partner. Valuing her independence and hoping to regain her autonomy, the musician expresses anxiety about preserving a core friendship instead of trying to force a new kind of relationship. Behind the title's sentiment she said it's about, "wishing you could skip over the awkwardness and uncertainty that follows and just hear their voice again—to know that person is still anchored next to you..." The song examines the tension between making space to know herself again and inevitably wanting to hold on to that platonic love.
The single begins with meager instrumentals shifting between keys and percussion, allowing the confessional verse to take up the forefront of the song. Moving towards a fuller flow of release, the song is guided by an ebb and flow that mirrors the push and pull tension of Rose's desire to be alone and an interesting new romantic possibility. Blending alt-pop, indie pop, and pop rock, Rose's collaborators Austin Ward and J Tyler Johnson tailored the production to evoke a stronger access to the diaristic lyrics. The chorus opens warmly reclaiming the singer's capacity to trust herself. Following strong vocalizations and atmospheric production, the song ends.
