In Estella Dawn's bright new EP “Can You Believe”, the titular track follows the spiral after catching feelings for someone so deeply, you lose yourself in the process. Dawn's lyrics are innately realistic, involving real life details that are so casually thrown in, you feel like you are talking right to her. She states the thought behind this song was to follow “a narrator caught between confidence and collapse, moving through late-night longing, self-deprecating humor, and the uncomfortable realization that love can make even the toughest person feel dangerously exposed”. In these new developments, Dawn finds herself losing her strength and stature to these feelings and this doubt. How can she stand tall and strong when all she wants is the one person she finds out of her league?

With a similar sound to that of Lola Young and Audrey Hobert, Dawn's music is conversational and alt-pop. The track opens with a speedy and tense guitar strum, starting the song off on a quick foot. Dawn's energy bleeds through her lyrics, with hints of sarcasm and drips of irony coming through as she pokes fun at herself and her negative habits (such as smoking cigarettes, and the urge to shave her head like Britney Spears). In the first verse, she opens up and sings “I’m a tough little bitch until I’m not / Truth is I don’t ever feel like I’m enough”. She moves into the chorus, explaining the root of her newfound insecurity. She feels that the one she is crushing on is way out of her league and has their life together, contrary to her. In the chorus, she sings, “Can you believe? / I got nothing on you / And you got everything on / You got everything on me”.

Born in New Zealand and now based in San Diego, Estella Dawn is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. All of her music is completely created by Dawn herself, with her writing, recording, and production skills. She defines her music as unfiltered, confessional, and “dark, vulnerable, sharp-witted and instantly recognizable”. With almost 100,000 monthly Spotify streamers, fans love Dawn's unique sound and ability to blend intricately detailed lyrics with real life experiences. Dawn is not afraid to poke fun at herself and admit her flaws, something that allows her music to feel all the more genuine.
