Magdalene is a proud pop star for the freaks. With sounds influenced by Fame Monster-era Gaga and hyperpop legends like SOPHIE and Charli xcx, Magdalene’s sound is bombastic, meaningful, and unabashedly pop. Her latest single, “DJesus,” continues on this legacy. Much like the previously named musicians’ works, “DJesus” is both a carefully crafted artistic statement and, of course, an undeniable banger. The track is an EDM-infused pop-rock party anthem. Produced by Slushpuppy and Dylan Harrison, “DJesus,” is simply irresistible. Comparing the highs of a rave to a religious experience, Magdalene creates pure pop euphoria.

“DJesus” is a callback to the time when camp-infused pop was mainstream. Magdalene’s performance skills, in particular, are kitsch to the max. Her vocals are powerful and brim with personality. The music video highlights this even further. Set in a trailer park town, we watch a community blindly bestow upon their DJesus (portrayed by Magdalene, donning numerous Gaga-esque, colorful costumes). Satirizing the conservative, Christian right, Magdalene's lyrics are biting and sharp. “DJesus” is a reminder that pop is a high art worthy of respect.

Magdalene is the future of pop stardom. A LA and New York-based artist and producer, Magdalene has been in the music game for years. Originally a member of bands like Current Joys and Surf Curse, Magdalene went solo in 2024. Since then, she has received mass critical and commercial success. PAPER Magazine profiled Magdalene for her track “Lucky Girl” in 2025, acclaiming the song’s artistry. On social media, Magdalene has seen mass TikTok virality, even becoming the face for Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds Pop’ playlist. With nearly 60,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and over 500,000 streams, Magdalene is blowing up—and it’s not hard to see why. You can listen to “DJesus,” along with the rest of Magdalene’s discography, on all major streaming platforms now.
