Review: "Dramatic" - Dasha

Dasha takes out all her anger in her new single, “Dramatic”. She wrote this song after her ex-boyfriend called her over FaceTime to end their relationship. He told her not to tell anyone about them, then went around and got back with his ex-girlfriend while they were together. Being her first love, she was heartbroken at first. Then she came to her senses and was livid. She called her ex-boyfriend out on everything he had done, just for him to say she “was being dramatic”. Throughout the track Dasha calls out the cheating, lying, and manipulation their relationship consisted of. She tells her ex-boyfriend that he can tell his friends she is “fucked in the head” and that she is “a bitch”, but whatever he does, the one thing he cannot call her is “dramatic”. He was the cause of all her pain and anger, and he does not have the right to tell her how she should be feeling. Women are constantly told they are overreacting, especially by the people that hurt and betray them. Dasha takes this narrative and pushes back against it. “Dramatic” is an incredibly powerful single that many women can resonate with.

“Dramatic” is Dasha’s most rock song to date. The primary focus of the musical composition are the electric guitar and drums which create an angry breakup song. The rhythm is fast and upbeat; however, the lyrics are intense and vulnerable. Being called dramatic is degrading and invalidating. Dasha took this insult and turned it into inspiration to create her latest masterpiece. She wanted her emotions to be heard. Dasha has every right to be furious. Not only was her heart shattered, but the one that broke her heart is the same one that told her she was overreacting. Dasha takes her anger out in this song. It can be heard in her powerful vocals.

Dasha is a singer-songwriter from San Luis Obispo, California. She has been writing and performing her own music since she was twelve years old. She works closely with her older brother, Brado, who helps produce her music. In 2021, she released her debut EP, $hiny Things. She has nearly 150,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and multiple songs with over one million streams each. Dasha thrives to make music that is authentically her own and does not want to hold back from her true self.
