Review: "Easy" - MisterWives

Humans are resilient; it is in our nature. In “Easy” by MisterWives, lead singer Mandy Lee sings about how heartache get easier as time passes. Whether it’s a bad breakup, a career hiccup, a death of a loved one, or a depressive season of life, humans are able to get back up. It is only a matter of time. Even if it is still difficult, things will get better. In the chorus, Lee sings “Cut me deep, but I stopped the bleeding// It gets easier, but it’s not easy”. They say time heals all wounds, but that does not mean the pain has not left a lasting scar. It does get easier to manage, and it may not hurt as much as it used to. Healing is not linear. Sometimes you can regress, but sometimes you can look in the mirror and realize you are doing better than before. And that in itself is the greatest healer of all.

MisterWives formed because Lee wanted an 80s cover band to play for her birthday. Now she is making 80s inspired pop music. “Easy” is an upbeat song with incredible vocals and heavy 80s influence. The music video, released alongside the song, has 80s influence with Lee’s dancing, fashion, and overall aesthetic. Lee looks almost free, like she has finally let go of the pain and is able to be herself again. Despite the dark lyrics, the music feels lighthearted and fun. When things get easier, you start getting pieces of yourself back. MisterWives lost themselves when their former label, Fueled by Ramen, dropped them mid-pandemic. “Easy” is their first single under their new independent label. It was released along with another single, “Where Do We Go From Here”. It got easier for them and the only place they can go now is up.

MisterWives is an American indie pop band formed in late 2012. They played their first show on February 1, 2013 at the Canal Room in New York City, where they are based. The very next day, they were signed to Photo Finish Records. Then in 2019, they signed with Fueled by Ramen but was subsequently dropped in 2021. In 2022, the band launched their own independent label, Resilient Little Records, in partnership with Photo Finish Records. The band has 3 full length albums and 3 extended play albums. They have toured with several popular bands, such as Paramore, Panic! At the Disco, Walk the Moon, Twenty-One Pilots, and more. They just began their current tour so check out their website to see if they are coming to a city near you!
