After a breakup, everything you see reminds you of your past lover. Every movie, every post, and certainly every love song makes your heart throb to think of what used to be. Now, you have to sit alone and miss them from afar, reminiscing on all of the times you shared. For Elijah Woods, this breakup is exactly that. In his recent release “Ghost on the Radio”, he discusses this feeling, and how every time he turns on the radio he can’t help but hear his old lover through the words being played. “‘Ghost on the Radio’ is about memorializing a past relationship that still haunts you,” he says. “No matter where you go, their voice finds a way to follow, like a song you didn’t ask to hear but can’t turn off.”

While this is certainly a sad concept, Woods’ soundscape is electronic and upbeat, mimicking the feeling of having this negative mentality while having to go through your daily life- feeling hurt even just turning on the radio. Leading into the chorus, he sings, “Did I just hear you laughing / or was that in the song? / I never turn down Coldplay / But you’re coming in strong”. He can’t escape, even in something that used to be his favorite, this pain creeps in and takes over. The chorus is staccato lyrics and vocalization, exemplifying the feeling of having your voice catch in your throat, unable to get the words out. In the bridge, Woods’ emotions show through and he repeats “Let me go / Let me go / All I ever hear is your ghost on the radio”. He begs for a way to break free, seemingly unable to find it.

Elijah Woods hails from Ottawa, Canada, and is now based in Los Angeles. He is a singer-songwriter, and a producer, allowing him to have a fully hands on role in all of his songs, perfectly crafting them to reflect his feelings. Woods has amassed over 3 million monthly Spotify listeners, and his top streamed song “24/7, 365” has almost 200 million streams. He completed his first headline tour in Canada in 2023, and then moved across the world to sold out shows in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore, opening for Nial Horan in Indonesia and playing in the Seoul Jazz Festival. He has announced an upcoming debut album set for later this year, and returns to Asia this summer for more shows.
