In her latest single, Diana Pilquist blends 80s disco with modern day pop production. “Good Sport”, released July 17th, follows the self confidence journey that can come from a breakup, and the ability to rise above your ex partner’s negativity. She learns to realize that her ex was the problem, not her, and still decides to be a good sport about the whole situation, hence the title. This is a song about self-reliance and assurance, and how Pilquist gains this even in her acceptance of the breakup. “Good Sport is about realizing sometimes you just have to be the bigger person, even if you wished the situation looked different," says Diana. "It's about knowing your worth, seeing through manipulation, and refusing to let anybody else control your happiness."
If you were to ignore the lyrics of this track and just listen to the soundscape, you’d immediately add it to your dancing playlist. Pilquist’s instrumentals are upbeat and continue on her inspiration of ABBA’s 80’s disco style, as seen in the rest of her discography. However, her lyrics tell an intricate story of realizations and self-growth, showing she is a multi-faceted artist. In the first verse, she sings about her sadness being in the same bar her and her ex have been in before. She recounts memories of theirs and how strange it is that they are in the same space yet so far apart. But, as the verse continues into the chorus, she realizes that she shouldn’t let this get to her, and that the relationship crumbled purely because of him. She sings, “Screw you for making me feel like shit / I should be the one to hash out any guilt / I guess I’ll be the good sport like before / Something someone like you could never do, of course”.
Diana Pilquist was born in 2004 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Having grown up with disco music, Pilquist blends the timeless and upbeat vibes into her own sound. Her music is all created with live performance in mind, trying her hardest to mix both electric pop sounds and emotional lyrics. She has a strong stage presence and a knack for getting people dancing, with music that calls for both a look inward and a head bop. With two EPs, Disco Daydream (2024) and At Some Point in Time… (2025), and a plethora of singles on streaming platforms, Pilquist is slowly growing her discography and craftsmanship.
