Review: “I’m Not Vienna” - Jenny Baker

If you have ever struggled with self confidence, you would understand that comparing yourself to others is a nasty habit to kick. Jenny Baker, an up-and-coming singer and songwriter, recently released her latest single “I’m Not Vienna.” The song is a tribute to anyone who may feel isolated or incapable. One person’s success is not your loss, one woman’s looks does not mean that you aren’t beautiful yourself. It is a brilliant message that, personally, I think Baker did a great job of conveying. In addition to helping boost the confidences of every listener, “I’m Not Vienna” is a song released in partnership with Strong Women Strong Girls, a non-profit. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the organization, and friendship bracelets will be sent out to anyone who pre-saved the song!

I love a song about empowerment, and “I’m Not Vienna” is no exception! The lyrics and the instrumentals pair perfectly with each other. I think this song has an emotional tone that really added to the raw, beautifully written lyrics. It’s such an incredibly powerful song, so I’m glad that I got a chance to talk about it! I think Baker has an immensely powerful voice that, paired with the lyrics, really made this song something special. And if you were wondering if this song gave me an uplifted view of myself… yes. Yes it did.

Jenny Baker is a singer, songwriter, recent college graduate, and a blowout sensation. Through her music, Baker aims to connect with her audience in an honest and raw format. Taking inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift and Julia Michaels, Baker was able to find a style that best suited her and the vision she had for her career. In addition to being a musician, Baker is a recent Harvard and Berklee graduate, where she studied sociology, songwriting, and performance. Clearly, her time at Berklee taught her well, because you can really hear the passion and strength in every lyric she sings. Her debut EP, The Day You’re Gone, paved the way for the rest of her career. I can’t wait to hear what she releases next.
