“I Want It” is the newest single by Alexa Kate. It’s tells the story of an intense crush that quickly goes from one to a hundred within a few lyrical stanzas. Kate provides very accurate storytelling in regards to a cliche beginning of a romance, especially with the line “Maybe I could meet your parents / shout your name outside your house”. As the song continues, her crush becomes stronger, and she starts to develop an obsession for this person. It’s who she thinks about all the time, and constantly imagines about being with them. The sheer idea of them not wanting to be with her would be devastating. Kate sings about how she’s changing herself for this person to like her back, something most people do when they have a crush, making this song relatable for many.
80’s synths start off “I Want It”, before they disappear into a more modern beat, but then return in the chorus, while still layered with a 21st-century pop production style. The song is fun and upbeat, especially with the mix of instrumentation popularized during different decades and the unique sound effects. During some points of “I Want It”, Kate talks instead of sings during certain points in the song, and it really fits into the “love letter” vibe the song is going for. Kate is also a fantastic singer; her vocal abilities really help complete the song and make it what it is. The background vocals are also produced really well with the rest of the song. Kate and Rich Tuorto, the producer, did a great job on “I Want It”.
Alexa Kate is a music artist based mainly in New York, and Los Angeles and Nashville as well. After writing songs for several years, she began her music career in 2016 with her debut single “Why?”. In 2024, she released her debut EP wishing you well. She has released other amazing music in addition to “Why?”, “I Want It”, and wishing you well, including “i hate the space”, “Twenty-Something”, and “The One”. She has performed live before, including at a show for the release of her song “Delusion”. She is also set to perform at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on March 4, 2025. After one week of “I Want It” being released, it received over 10,000 streams. Alexa Kate is an incredible and very talented singer and songwriter!
