Review: "is there something (i don't know)" - kylekelly

kylekelly recounts meeting someone named Laney at a strip mall after the girl he liked put him “on a shelf”. He calls her a danger to his health as he becomes a part of a love triangle. When this leaves him in a rut, he copes with music and solitude. He sings “I’ve been staring at my ceiling/ clutched six strings” and “chugging alcohol/ still say nothing” becoming a danger to himself  in a rush of false hope. The chorus fluctuates between “is there something I don’t know?” to “is there something, I don’t know” as he questions the state of his relationship with this person. He’s been “doing flips and rolls” with a conversation that’s “delusional” as he wonders if he has a chance. The song closes with little to no closure for the listener or kylekelly, which develops the authenticity of his emotional storytelling.
