Ending a relationship comes with variations of feelings, each depending on the situation. There can be heartbreak, resentment, acceptance, and many others, all valid and specific to each person. For Bella Rios, her latest single “Leaving” depicts the feelings she is experiencing as her relationship comes to an end. For Rios, these emotions align more with anger, snarkiness, and a strong sense of finality. The only question she has left is which version of her partner is facing this breakup. This track is upbeat and exciting, with hints of rock and pop soundscapes. Rios takes listeners through a storyline of having to constantly ask which version of her partner she is with. She is tired of the back and forth, and feels like there is no way to build a true love on such rocky grounds. Her partner lacks the ability to keep a solid stance, constantly switching sides and personality traits.

Rios’ journey is told through rhetorical questions to the audience. Her lack of sureness comes through in her lyrics, with constant questioning of every bit of their relationship. The track opens with a quickly strum guitar, as she sings, “Is this passing or permanent? / Is this a sign we’re past saving? / Is this mind over matter / Or heart over healing?” She doesn’t even know where to start, and doesn’t even know if this relationship should even be ending. Her voice has a slight country twang, and a whole lot of attitude. By the chorus, Rios has settled into her decision, and feels secure in her choice to end the partnership. She kicks herself for being so unsure, and her mind feels all over the place, but she wraps up the chorus by singing, “So which you’s the one who’s speaking / I just wanna know / Which you am I leaving?” Her snarky tone is emphasized by electric guitars and vocalizing, a true cacophony coaxing her into staying strong in this choice.

Bella Rios is a twenty-two year old singer songwriter currently based in Nashville, TN. Rios was born and raised in the lively city of Chicago, and recounts her love of music being born at age five, when she began to learn classical piano. Her parent’s taste of musical icons like Queen, Fleetwood Mac, and Aerosmith bleed in the edge she has to her sound, with modern day artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, and Renee Rapp adding to the pop and feminine anger side. With multiple singles and two EP’s released since 2019, Rios is making her way up the charts and into listeners' Spotify playlists. Her music is raw and real, and has notes of sassiness and candor that make her easy to love and relate to. Make sure to follow the social medias below to hear more from Bella Rios.
