Review: "Lifetime Supply" - Helena May

In an age of social media, Photoshop, and clickbait, Helena May's vibrant new single, "Lifetime Supply", is the colorful self-love anthem we all need. This song tells the story of being on the outside looking in, seeing only what someone wants you to see. Maybe from our perspective, they have a perfect life and constant "sunshine vibes", as Helena puts it. But the truth is, reality isn't as definitive as a crisp, new Instagram filter with perfect lighting and scripted smiles. Each person is unique and complex with their own personality and style, something this song strives to celebrate. Helena sings about how keeping up this perfect image can be stressful, so why not embrace your flaws and be yourself? "Life will build us shape us break us But you'll never lose the light in your eyes", is perhaps the most powerful line in the song. It's a line that says, life will be stressful anyway, so why waste it keeping up a facade? Do what makes you happy!

"Lifetime Supply" has a funky instrumental that's a joyful treat for the ears. Helena's strong vocals are backed by a full band comprised of drums, bass, keys, and guitar, giving it a genuine disco feel that instantly transports us back to the 70s. It's the type of song you break out at a beach party. Talk about sunshine vibes! Something of particular note is the creativity of the band. Throughout the track, we hear confident fills and runs from every instrument. It's unpredictable but never sounds out of place. The complex riffs showcase each musician's unique skill set, perfectly matching the lyrical theme of the tune. It's a refreshing change of pace from the standard pop formula.
