Review: "LONELY ASS BITCH" - Ally Ahern

Loneliness that comes from being in isolation hurts. Loneliness that comes from being surrounded by so many people, yet still feeling alone cuts deeper. Ally Ahern describes this feeling in her latest single, “LONELY ASS BITCH”. Throughout her life, she has felt that she is an outcast who could never truly fit in. She has spent her whole life looking in from the outside, yearning for belonging. In the chorus, Ahern sings the gut-wrenching lyric, “I’m ripping out my heart // For people that don’t give a damn”. She understands that she is hurting herself wanting to belong to people that would not even bat an eye if she never showed up again. Ahern sees everyone around her living life and fitting in, while she is “booking a table for one”. Her hope for the song is that it reaches an audience that resonates with the lyrics. She hopes her words help them feel less alone in a world that makes them feel so lonely.

“LONELY ASS BITCH” is a brilliantly crafted masterpiece that highlights Ally Ahern’s incredible songwriting talent as well as her beautiful vocals. The musical production creates an effortless flow for the entire song, leading Ahern’s vocals flawlessly throughout the track. Ahern creates music that is relatable and comedic. She never wants to take herself too seriously, and “LONELY ASS BITCH” shows that. At the two minute and twenty-six second mark, the song plays a fake voicemail box message led by an AI. “Hello, you have reached the empty mailbox of superstar 7,027. Oh pretty, pretty please leave a message after the beep because this user’s mailbox currently has zero messages. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you”. This addition adds a comedic touch to the song and allows the listener to laugh before returning back to the gloomy lyrics. From the unique melody to the relatable lyrics, “LONELY ASS BITCH” is another impressive addition to Ahern’s remarkable discography.

Ally Ahern is a singer-songwriter from Chicago. Her music is a blend of multiple different genres, never relying on one type to create her musical diary about her life. She uses her life experiences, such as being expelled when she was 12 to surviving a rare heart arrythmia, to create vulnerable music that listeners love. Ahern has proven herself as both a vocalist and a songwriter. Ahern not only writes music for herself, but has penned songs for other musicians. She has an impressive list of songwriting credits for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Tove Syrke, and many more
