We’re all a little messy sometimes. Whether it be not being able to get out of bed, do silly things, or even something manic. We are all human and stuff like that happens! With this debut EP with titled song, “MESSY” by Alex Ray, that topic and feeling is covered with a this alt-pop anthem. “MESSY” is a journey through emotions and honesty, encouraging listeners to reflect and heal themselves. This song definitely does that! Alex Ray pours her own personal experience with mental disorders to connect to people who suffer. If you need a head-banging, heartfelt song, put your headphones on and rock out to Alex Ray!
This song starts off slow, and then gradually builds into a beautiful masterpiece. There are electronic synths, along with the occasional electronic guitar in the first verse. As soon as the chorus comes, these same elements grow and bend to accentuate the vocals. The second verse starts off in a different way, with hard drum-set and electric bass. This instantly creates more of a grungy, alternative sounds that elevates the song. I think one of my favorite parts though is the chorus after the second, especially with the “Up again, down again” part! All of these rock and electronic elements mesh so well to create a pop-punk banger!
Alex Ray is singer/songwriter based out of Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating valedictorian from law school and on the brink of securing a position at a prestigious firm, she transitioned back into music. She has amassed such a great following on YouTube with 33 thousand subscribers. She crafted music in her adolescence as a form of therapy, and has grown to fall back into her passion for it today. She also uses it as a way to story-tell her experiences with bipolar disorder. As this is her debut EP, there is so much more to come from this blossoming artist.
