If you’re a pop-punk lover, then this song is going to scratch every part of your brain– and then some. Electrifyingly infectious with that classic pop-punk blend of intense percussion and guitar, CMAGIC5’s (“C”) latest single “MONSTER” is coming at you with its anthemic melodies and iconic chorus. The titular monster of this track is going to be relatable for those of you who have ever been trapped in a toxic relationship. It’s something you can’t escape, that destructive cycle that you keep going back to in spite of knowing how bad it is for you. You may be exhausted, you may be longing for freedom, yet that push-and-pull is just so evident that it’s hard to break out of it. “MONSTER” is a haunting representation of such a relationship, and demonstrates how, even if the person is not there, the relationship follows us everywhere like a monster.

“MONSTER” is for all you aforementioned pop-punk lovers, enjoyers, and all-around enthusiasts. I, personally, am one of those people, and so “MONSTER” has all the bits and bobs that I love about pop-punk. For one, its soundscape has a spectacular blend of both percussion and guitar; it’s always amazing to hear just how much the percussion can affect the energy of a song, and “MONSTER” certainly takes advantage of how much power it has in a track. You just can’t help but tap your foot to the beat when you listen to it. And then when you turn to the lyrics, you hear exactly how well both the songwriting and soundscape meld into one cohesively fun song. The track discusses a toxic relationship that the narrator is haunted by yet cannot help but return to, and I think it’s so fantastic how the song’s energy explodes during the chorus to mirror exactly how the narrator is feeling about their monstrous partner. C’s vocals are brilliant in this track, but I think the chorus really highlights her amazing voice, singing, “I keep running but you always follow me home / hiding underneath my bed.” The bridge, too, is great. It’s less about the fear that the narrator feels about the relationship and more about the need they feel to return to their partner– “I need you like the world needs rain / You’re the blood in my veins.” It’s a chemical need to be with them in spite of the toxicity. C’s “MONSTER” is a track that’ll have you up on your feet and dancing around, but also tuned into its dark lyrics.

Toronto-based singer-songwriter, musician, and recording artist CMAGIC5 (also known as “C”) is creating modern pop tracks that embrace all that coming-of-age has to offer. Her songs have a rock ‘n’ roll spirit, catchy soundscapes and passionate vocals that invite its listeners to imagine themselves as the “main character”. Her debut single “Ready to Run” dropped in 2020, and her similarly titled debut album came out just a year later. Since then, she’s worked alongside numerous artists and collaborated with them in a wide range of tracks. Her music is similar to artists such as Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, and Sabrina Carpenter; and C is a firm believer that music is your best friend that’ll help you overcome anything and everything. If you enjoyed “MONSTER”, then drop C a follow and be sure to listen to her vast discography!
