Review: "My Favorite" - Ceara Cavalieri

Ceara Cavalieri’s latest release is an addictive, instant hit.  Following the story of feeling attached and attracted to toxicity, “My Favorite” is relatable yet edgy.  She expresses what it is to be wrapped up in the drama of a relationship like that.  Feeling as if it is those two, her and her “favorite”, against the world.  Toxic relationships are those which never seem to end for this reason, adrenaline inducing and always interesting and complicated.  While the majority warn against these situations, Cavalieri takes the time to articulate why they are so tempting to begin with and appreciate the rare good portions of them.  Within the lyrics of the song and in the act of releasing it, she challenges the listener to debate her love for these poisonous dynamics- and after such a compelling piece, it becomes difficult to.

The song matches the enveloping tone of its lyrics, immediately pulling in the listener.  It’s pop rock and electric, reminiscent of Avril Lavigne and other early 2000s artists of her genre.  Fast paced percussion paired with Ceara’s raspy feminine singing creates imagery of being at a live show even playing from a phone speaker.  That’s simply the magnetic and nostalgic effect Cavalieri consistently brings to every song she releases.  The song begins with high energy immediately, but she still manages to make the chorus stand out amidst the chaos with flawless layered voices and the memorable lyrics they repeat.  Following this theme of powerful repetition, she ends the piece repeating the title line “That’s why you're my favorite”.

Ceara Cavalieri grew up in southern California, an environment that evidently inspired the style of her music as well as her choice to pursue a career of creativity.  She began this path towards professional singing very early on, first discovering her talent at only three years old.  She would go on to study psychology at UCLA and continue with her life, but humming all the way.  In 2019, she released her first single “Say Something”.  After this, she dropped songs almost as quickly as she gained fans.  Since that first single, she’s released 13 additional songs, each expanding a little more on her exploration of genre.  “My Favorite”, the most recent of these, is available on her Spotify today make sure to stream it and follow her below.
