Midnight Til Morning has released their new single, “Navy Eyes.” Reminded of a partner’s navy eyes, the members of Midnight Til Morning go through a deliberation of wanting the partner in this song to tell them to stay instead of driving late at night. A metaphor of being close to breaking up, “Navy Eyes” examines why leaving a relationship is the scariest feeling to some. With the want of the relationship being bigger than the want to leave, the debate of being free to drive late in the night with looming goodbyes is a hard one. Midnight Til Morning not only makes listeners feel seen by singing about conflicting feelings about the relationship they share with a partner, but also the inability to want someone to say something without telling them yourself.

“Navy Eyes” is more than just a song about debating whether or not to take a late night drive; it’s a song about whether or not their partner would stay, even if the emotional connection is there. Fearful and scared of losing the partner in the song, Midnight Til Morning captures the want of not losing their partner and wanting their partner to fight for them as well. Not “[wanting] to fall just to let it go,” Midnight Til Morning wonders if their partner cares about fighting for their relationship as much as they do. With the fear that their partner doesn’t, Midnight Til Morning settles that they should stay so their relationship can have a fighting chance, a decision that ultimately calls into question for listeners whether or not it’s worth it to stay in a relationship if there isn’t any fight to keep the relationship from their partner.
