Review: "Never Be the Same" - Danielle Mattachini

Sometimes it takes losing someone to find yourself. And it is when you love yourself that you will know who you are and who you are meant to be with. In her painstakingly heartfelt song, “Never Be the Same,” Danielle Mattachini beautifully reflects on the moment she realized she decided to love herself, and the heartache that led her there. The soft, melodious guitar overlaid with nostalgic synths, somber piano chords and Danielle’s resonant voice, curates a timeless piece that serves a greater purpose than just for “easy listening.” Her vulnerable lyrics like, “Calling out his name//With both hands on my heart with the pain” and, “Cuz the day that we both parted//Was the moment that I changed” are what strikes the song as more of a message than just a story. “Never Be the Same” is both a comforting hug, and a self-love letter to those who have gone through loss and are in search of finding who they are after it.

Using your voice for the greater good of society is what we should do when we are given the chance. There is no doubt that Danielle Mattachini has taken the opportunity to do so through her music. Her passion for writing and sharing her stories shine through her words. Especially in “Never Be the Same,” where she voices her hurt from a past relationship, taking a sob story and spinning it into a glimmering lesson of how that shaped her as a person. With her lyrical vulnerability, wonderstruck encouragement and uplifting instrumentation, Danielle Mattachini’s single, “Never Be the Same” is in fact the light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Danielle Mattachini is a Canadian singer/songwriter. Her first single, “What it Feels Like,” was released in 2021 and garnered 2.7k streams in five months on Spotify. Since then, she has released her newest single “Never Be the Same,” demonstrating once again, her innate gift for songwriting. Although she only has two released singles, her passion for writing songs is a sealed promise that there is more to come. Therefore, Danielle Mattachini is a name you won’t want to forget.
