Review: "Night Shift" - Smallpools

Life can often be monotonous, leaving us feeling trapped in our day-to-day lives. This mundane cycle makes us dream for more, longing to break free from our daily requirements. Smallpools tackles these feelings in their recent single, "Night Shift." The group elaborates on the track's meaning, stating, "Sometimes we get stuck in a routine that we can’t break out of. The nightshift provides a comfortable anonymity, but we wanna find more. Will we bring to life a dream that still lingers within or remain in this loop that is the nightshift." These routines we get stuck in might be related to something like school or work—something universally understood that makes "Night Shift" a relatable song for all to enjoy.

Spirited and dynamic, Smallpools' "Night Shift" gets the blood pumping as an energetic alt-pop/indie-rock anthem. The track features vibrant synths and electrifying guitar riffs, driven by animated, fast-paced drums. The lead singer's charismatic voice delivers engaging lyrics and infectious melodies, creating compelling content for listeners. Breezy and exuberant, Smallpools has masterfully composed the perfect mix of feel-good dance beats and a captivating alt-pop/indie-rock soundscape that will make listeners come back to "Night Shift" again and again.

Taking the indie-rock scene by storm, Smallpools made their debut with the song "Dreaming," which is now RIAA Certified Gold. The track quickly earned the band support from late night television shows and alternative radio stations across the U.S., including features on Late Night with Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Since then, Smallpools has gone on to release their debut album, LOVETAP!, two successful EPs (The Science of Letting Go and So Social), and a second studio album entitled Life in a Simulation. The band has garnered over 400 million streams so far and has spent time opening for acts like Twenty One Pilots, Walk the Moon, Neon Trees, Grouplove, and Two Door Cinema Club. Comprised of three talented individuals, Smallpools consists of members Sean Scanlon (lead vocals/keys), Michael Kamerman (guitar), and Beau Kuther (drums).
