Review: "Phantasm" - Gabrielle Ornate

It would seem as though now more than ever the world needs a reminder of feminine power and strength. Gabrielle Ornate’s new single, “Phantasm” is an electric rock anthem that communicates a narrative of female empowerment and undying rage. Ornate’s inspiring lyricism transports audiences to a realm of dark fantasy and womanly ferocity. Verses such as, “Internal power, external rage”, awaken the fiery urge to reject silence and embody bravery. Ornate’s haunting vocals, paired with the song’s bold instrumentation, create an almost cinematic listening experience. With influences of indie-pop and alternative rock, “Phantasm” is not only a beautiful song, but also an essential reminder that a woman can never be tamed and should never be underestimated.

We are introduced to “Phantasm” with electronic distorted synths, energetic percussion and hypnotic vocals. Ornate’s eclectic musical style produces an otherworldly sound that captivates listeners and generates a sense of euphoria. The single showcases her wide vocal range, with the inclusion of both rich, deep notes and angelic vocal riffs. Ornate’s voice has impressive clarity and power that help her stand out as a talented artist. The song’s head banging chorus presents energetic instrumentation with intricate guitar strumming and booming drum work. “Phantasm” contains a dreamy bridge that includes a unique tempo change and exhibits Ornate’s ability to hit ethereal high notes.

Gabrielle Ornate describes her musical style as alt-pop siren meets riff-laden rock. Her love for music was fostered at a young age and has developed into an outlet where she can channel her creative energy. Many of her songs have accumulated over 100,000 streams on Spotify, with some of her biggest hits being “Free Falling”, “The Undying Sleep” and “Sprit of the Times”. All of her singles have complex and trippy cover art that beautifully accompany the magical vibes given off in her music. Similarly, Ornate’s impressive repertoire of music videos feature whimsical videography and psychedelic graphics. Luckily for us, Ornate has announced via TikTok and Instagram that “Phantasm” has its own music video in the works. Gabrielle Ornate’s unique artistic style and enchanting voice set her apart as a rising star to watch in the indie-rock scene.
