Review: "PINUP" - Gabriella Zauna

Blog readers, let’s be honest. We’ve all been at our lowest moments. Feeling down on ourselves, hating… WAKE UP! That is what Gabriella Zauna’s new bop “PINUP” tells us as we go through these struggles. Throughout the song, Gabriella tells of her personal struggles and fights, scooping her heart off of the floors and reminding herself to stand strong! While we all go through the dark and rough, and I’ve been there, Gabriella reminds us to stand straight, be grateful, humble ourselves, and BE THAT BADDIE. This alternative dark pop ear candy has more than just a thumping beat, but a message that tells listeners to “Wake up/Do your makeup like a pinup/Get it straight”.
The arpeggiated ring with the gaps creates suspense into the opening, with the techno feel thrusting listeners forward. If Tate McRae and Charli XCX had a baby, this would be her. The structure of pulsations and completion on beat is gorgeous! While keeping the lyrics conversational, especially with the background vocals, it aids in the lyrical runs Gabriella slays. I also want to highlight the drums, which are the pulsating drive of the song. There is a live feel, very front heavy that give weight to the song in wonderful ways. A perfect song for the girlies with the subwoofer in the trunk.
Gabriella Zauna is a singer/songwriter born, raised, and based out of Los Angeles, California. During a young age, music had been a significant part of her life, along side tennis. After a hefty decision of picking one over the other, she decided to pursue music which she grew within by writing at a young age, playing guitar and piano at 7-years-old, producing compositions at 12-years-old and eventually singing. Gabriella became a one-woman-band, possessing a skill that would aid her in her success, and bring forth her creativity and authenticity: Synesthesia, where each song becomes more than just sound with visuals containing tapestries of rich colors, textures, and shapes. With her mom by her side, supporting her dreams, Gabriella has risen to stardom with her hits. She has over ten thousand listers on Spotify, and has even more followers on her social media.
