Review: "Poolside" - Falky

Falky’s latest track, “Poolside” is out of this world! This thrilling song explores the escapades of an ordinary guy who finds himself traveling with an ultra-wealthy woman for the fun of it. The song plays like a story wherein the protagonist abandons his normal life to be entertained by this surreal experience. Many of the lyrics of “Poolside” such as “I don’t know if it’s real or not so pour us up another shot” reveal a confusion between reality and fantasy. As a result, this light-hearted track emphasizes the excitement which living for thrills can involve, even if it’s only for a short amount of time. Not only are the lyrics of “Poolside” so much fun, but they also allow the listener to temporarily immerse themselves in a world where their usual rules don't apply.

The vocals on “Poolside” are also quite light-hearted and fun, and they make a perfect match to the laid-back nature of the song. Rufus and Noah’s layered voices add great texture to the music; and the overall production quality is one of the most impressive aspects of “Poolside.” Falky has managed to encapsulate the feeling of carefree dancing within this track while its tone and mood are an impressive reminder of dance music legends Earth, Wind & Fire. What Falky does uniquely is blend this 70’s style dance music with their own eccentric music-making abilities. With a larger than life lyrical storyline to match, “Poolside” is infectious, ambitious, and clearly a passionate collaboration between two talented individuals.

The story of musical duo of Falky begins in 2021 when members Rufus Mullhaupt and Noah Falk released their debut single “Dumb out of Luck.” With no specific sound or genre to pin them down, they have a significant plan to release new music every month of 2024 with no signs of slowing down. Intriguingly, these singer-songwriters have extremely different musical origin stories, with Rufus growing up in a household filled with instruments, and Noah with no familial musical background other than the sounds of the car radio. Together, Noah and Rufus now sport over 2,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and they intend to keep paving their path towards notoriety with Falky’s eccentric sound.
