Review: "PROM" - DALBY
"PROM," the newest single from DALBY, narrates an entertaining, fictional story about a mean girl stealing DALBY's prom date. As DALBY tends to write more mature lyrics, she was encouraged to write a song that sounded more like her young age. "PROM" is an amusing song filled with teen angst and slightly sarcastic lyrics, giving a fun take on something that might not feel so fun in real life. This track comes right on time as we're currently in the midst of prom season. "PROM" is an upbeat anthem for all the teens going through one of the most fun and stressful times of their lives. Even if you're well past your prom days and they are a distant memory for you, "PROM" is still a fantastic listen you'll want to play on repeat.
"PROM" oozes punk rock energy, combined tastefully with contemporary pop. DALBY's fierce vocals are reminiscent of Avril Lavigne, filling the song with a proper amount of attitude and angst. Though the lyrics are spiteful and a little angry, the upbeat track keeps things light and fun. "PROM" is full of catchy melodies, edgy guitars, and energetic beats, creating a song perfect to jump around and dance to. The lighthearted anthem is a great listen for anyone looking to brighten their day or shake out any negative feelings. "PROM" is a fresh addition to the pop punk world and is a must-listen for any pop punk fan.
At an impressive 16 years old, DALBY is a talented singer, songwriter, and activist. The gifted teen composes music and lyrics relatable to both young and old. Now Atlanta based, DALBY has learned to adapt and has reflected her journey moving from California to Georgia in her songs. She chooses not to label herself with genres and states, “I really don’t like labeling myself to any genre, because I hate feeling like there’s no room for me to expand or grow…hopefully, if you like one of my songs, you like one of my songs, and it shouldn’t be a matter of genre.” Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift are a few of her inspirations. DALBY's first professional project was an independently produced album at the age of 12; in the past 3 years, she has written hundreds of songs including "blanket" and "bitter." The young artist is one to look out for as she works passionately on her craft and we're excited to see what else she has to offer!
