Magdalene has released her newest single, “Red Siren Pick Up” with a feature from Current Joys. Fulfilling the want of chaos and running toward it instead of away from the mess, “Red Siren Pick Up” is Magdalene’s most volatile and emotionally raw release yet. Exploring themes of romanticizing grief, loss, and destruction, this indie-rock meets abrasive pop to create a mess of romance and what it means to be in love. “Red Siren Pick Up” may be the newest release from Magdalene and Current Joys, but this bass-heavy, rock-influenced sound picks up this single to be a career highlight for years to come.
“Red Siren Pick Up” follows abrasive pop sounds throughout the single, with voice effects applied to both Magdalene’s and Current Joys’ vocals; however, don’t let that deter you, as the voice effects only add to the production of “Red Siren Pick Up” overall, as these voice effects allow for both Magdelene’s and Current Joys’ vocals to become instrumentation within the song itself rather than having the production and vocalization separate, something that I thought really stood out within the song itself. A fever dream of production, “Red Siren Pick Up” allows for both Magdalene and Current Joy to shine throughout the single, something that only amplifies the song itself.
Magdalene is a singer from the United States. Hailing from New Mexico, Magdalene has been on the rise in the pop-rock world, landing on Spotify’s “Obsessed” and “Fresh Finds Pop” playlists. While this may be the first feature from Current Joys, with whom listeners may be familiar with from both “Kids” and “New Flesh,” within Magdalene’s discography, the two have a long history of touring together and developed close ties within the indie-music scene. Listeners can keep up with both Magdalene’s and Current Joys’ newest releases and show announcements on their social medias, both linked down below.
