Review: "Renegades on Borrowed Time" - Ferester

"Renegades on Borrowed Time" is the newest single from Scottish-American indie-rock artist Ferester. The grand folk-pop ballad recounts the story of a failed Bonnie and Clyde-esque relationship. The lyrics about looking back on a love doomed to fail beautifully accompany the soft acoustic instrumental. Together, they create a dreamy, melancholic atmosphere. It's perfect for a drive on a warm summer's day. Ferester's sound, akin to artists like Noah Kahan and Mumford and Sons, is a harmonious blend of indie, folk, rock, and pop. "Renegades on Borrowed Time" is a poetic, wistful ballad with a relatable story and a grand sound.

The most impressive aspect of Ferester's latest single is the songwriting. The lyrics feel illustrative and detailed yet universal, aided by the clever song structure. The first verse comes from the perspective of one partner, and the second verse is told from the other. It makes for a detailed, intimate look at a relationship falling apart. Lines such as, "Forgive me everything I break in you darling / It's just a measure that I take when I can't let go," and the alternate "Forgive me everything I break in you darling / It's just a measure that I take when I lose control" are poetic descriptions of hurting your significant other. The instrumental gradually builds to a grand climax in the bridge, where Ferester belts out as the guitars soar. "Renegades on Borrowed Time" is a dynamic track, capturing authentic emotions of heartbreak in a creative way. Here, Ferester establishes his prowess in song structure and production, and it is exciting to see what he will do next.

Spencer O'Grady is the artist behind the musical project "Ferester." The artist is still up-and-coming, as "Renegades on Borrowed Time" is just his fourth officially released song. His others, "Here Right Now," and "Take Me Home," from 2023, as well as his debut "Thinkin Bout You" from 2022, are similarly dynamic indie-rock ballads. Currently, Ferester has over 25,000 streams on Spotify and 2700 listeners. The artist focuses on creating tracks in the folk-pop sphere with strong emotional cores. And he plans on continuing to do so on his upcoming EP, that "Renegades on Borrowed Time" will appear on. "Renegades on Borrowed Time," as well as, O'Grady's other works, can be listened to on streaming platforms now.
