Cheska Moore Rotten Fruit Cover Art

Cheska Moore's latest song "Rotten Fruit" is nothing short of a masterpiece. It combines a unique melody with meaningful commentary on the world. The song is a piece of art with a lot of political undertones present in the lyrics. The lyrics are very poetic, each line evoking a different emotion while the song tells you a larger story. A line that feels particularly impactful is: "We're painting a picture so kings can live on / Pointing the finger and framing the pawn / The plague will be here before we reach the dawn" It feels relatable. There is a shared frustration or sadness with the world and society. More specifically, that frustration stems from the power structures built around the suffering of others. "Rotten Fruit" talks about how those structures and systemic issues can often feel rotten in different ways.

"Rotten Fruit" has a dark, haunting sound. The moment the song starts, it almost feels like you have been transported to a foggy, dark landscape. Moore's vocal tone is moody and unique, reminding me somewhat of Julia Wolf. It feels like a song that belongs on the soundtrack of a gothic film or novel. In particular, it reminds me of something you would hear on a dystopian film like The Hunger Games. The message of "Rotten Fruit" is hardened by its melancholic sound that makes you reflect deeply. The song also feels naturally emotional, almost as if the song itself is mourning something.

Cheska Moore is a dark-pop artist from South London. Her music is a combination of mystifying vocals, unlikely instrumentation, and raw honesty of genuine songwriting. Drawing inspiration from the moody, characterful approach of Billie Eilish, Cheska has unearthed a sound that is uniquely her own based on her experiences with the darker side of life. She first made waves in the summer of 2020 with her viral subversions of classic pop hits, reaching over 10 million views across social platforms. Her signature style quickly gained her a dedicated following, leading to the release of her debut single, "Boy Who Tried," in 2019. Her EP "Self-Loathing Narcissist" released in 2023 solidified her place in the industry. It gained over 2.2 million streams on Spotify and 10 million streams across platforms.
