The resurgence of early 2000s pop punk continues through Dutch Alternative Pop singer Jessmin's new single "Saddy Ending." The instrumental draws you into a dream-like beat before the guitar punches you out, and you're ready to rock and roll. It is a breath of fresh air compared to the similar beats artists are releasing now. Jessmin is not afraid to be vulnerable, talking about her struggles with ADHD and depression in her lyrics. She opens with, "You set my world on fire," setting up expectations for what's to come. The song itself is about toxic relationships and how the other person becomes like an addiction. Her words make you want to run in the other direction, but also never leave.

The single tackles the ways people can break you. Asking over and over in the chorus if she is going to die from protecting this person. It is such an honest way of describing how it feels to be constantly put down by the person you're with. No matter what they do, nothing is bad enough to walk away. "Maybe you love me next, you hate me, maybe you build me, next you break me," is the lead-in to this repetitive chorus. This comparison between herself and something that can be broken is so tragic, but it makes for a perfect scream in the car lyric.

She shared that this track was inspired by the pop punk songs of the early 2000s, specifically artists like Blink-182 and Avril Lavigne. Her impressive lyricism is no shock, as Jessmin studied songwriting at the Wisseloord Academy in Paris, France. Her journey with music began when she was fifteen, when she appeared on The X Factor, an impressive achievement for such a young artist. She didn't stop there. During quarantine, she taught herself to play the guitar and used music as an outlet for all her complex emotions. With these qualifications, Jessmin has established herself as a professional; there are no more excuses. Check out "Saddy Ending" wherever you listen to music!
