In the modern world, it almost feels like everything is a performance. Everyone has to have the best job, the most money, exciting vacations, and the best group of friends. Furthermore, if you don’t post evidence, it doesn’t exist. Every aspect of our lives are on a stage for others to consume, judge, and comment on. But what if you have something so good you want to keep it to yourself? That is what the song “Safekeeping” by Gillian Krystal is about. This indie pop song depicts the feeling of having a special relationship that you value so much that you don’t want it tainted by the negativity, judgement, and opinions of the outside world.
The introduction incorporates an echoey guitar that contributes an almost mysterious feel. As a result, it creates an ethereal atmosphere that helps support the idea of protecting something sacred.
