Review: "Same Cloth" - Leah Jane

This song, “Same Cloth” by Leah Jane, tells the story of a love that just didn’t work out. No matter how much you love the person, or how devoted you were to each other, sometimes it’s only momentary. And it’s only meant to be a stage in your life. With lyrics like “I want to feel you like the atmosphere, like oxygen, can’t disappear,” and “you said we’d be everything and more love,” Leah Jane shows this devotion, while lyrics like “better off as friends you said” and “don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s missed” show that separation. This song is that perfect balance of nostalgia and longing with the harsh realizations that someone isn’t supposed to be everything to you. That’s a hard thing to acknowledge, and it’s hard to let that someone go, but as Leah Jane shares, it’s important to find that strength to move on.

“Same Cloth” is an emotive piano-based song that pairs strong chords with soft and soothing vocals. Starting right off the bat with the piano, you’re brought into the music right away, drawing you in before the instrumentation backs off to highlight Leah Jane’s beautiful voice in the first verse. The instrumentation picks up again in addition to an echoing effect of the vocals in the chorus, building up the tension and the emphasis. From here on out, the song maintains an atmospheric sound with the hazy vocals and strong melody. This allows the strength of the story to grow as well, as the conflict in the tale is reaching a head just as the song is. Overall, Leah Jane has crafted a beautiful piano ballad, full of emotions and a strong melody that just begs to be replayed.
