After the release of her flawless 2025 LP, PRETTY EVIL, dark-pop songstress Ellise is back, preparing listeners for her next era. Her newest single, "Sexxxtapes,” is the third installment of this fresh music. The song maintains her trademark gloomy soundscape while delving into more sensual lyrics. Ellise explores the aftermath of a breakup, where she is longing for her ex - but only physically. She misses the moments of intimacy between this person, but hates the feelings of anxiety and anger that her subject caused. In these moments of weakness, rather than going back to her ex-partner or finding a replacement, she reminisces by replaying their videos. While she misses the way they made each other feel, the lyrics emphasize that she does not want to return to this toxic relationship. Instead, the singer finds a way to find pleasure without them. Through “Sexxxtapes,” Ellise ingeniously explores the intricacies of lust, yearning, and regret, creating another flawless track.
Ellise never fails to create phenomenal music that plays on repeat. From “911” to “dead2me,” her discography contains unique songs with clever lyrics and haunting soundscapes. “Sexxxtapes” maintains this signature sound while providing a fresh storyline. The track begins with a soothing bassline and wavy synth that reels the listener in. Ellise’s angelic voice kicks off the verse, sharing the candid storyline. When the chorus begins, the drums hit, creating an electrifying atmosphere. The pop soundscape blends well with the sultry lyrics, creating a feeling of lust and desire. The production continues until the bridge makes a unique change. Heavy effects overtake Ellise’s voice, catching the listener off guard and emphasizing the emotional lyrics. While the singer teeters on pop and alternative, and “Sexxxtapes” remains in these genres, the song contains a more hyper-pop element that deviates from her typical sound. This showcases her versatility and unmistakable ability to mesmerize audiences, keeping them engaged and awaiting her next move.
Ellise is a dark-pop singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. She moved to the area at 17 to pursue her career. Since then, she has made incredible waves in the industry. In just her first year, she was selected for the UPROXX Uncharted series to work with producer Chris Seefried to craft her first single, “Break Down.” The same year, she was a finalist in the 2016 iHeartRadio Rising Star Competition. In 2018, she released her debut EP, Can You Keep A Secret? In 2021, she released her debut album, Chaotic. She has collaborated with artists such as Iggy Azalea, Savage Ga$p, and my personal favorite, Mothica, and DeathbyRomy, on a remix of Ellise’s song, “Soul Sucker.” With two full-length albums and two EPs, Ellise is best known for her haunting pop songs that fuel the inner dark side of listeners.
