“Soho Grand” by ROREY is a deeply personal and emotional song about the long road to healing. ROREY asks herself over and over, does it get better? On one hand, experiencing this feeling is almost an outer-body experience. It's like seeing yourself from a bird's-eye lens. You start to wonder if everyone around you can notice your struggles or if it’s hidden so well. The song dives into the importance of asking for help and how tough that can really be. Healing isn’t linear, and healing takes time. The process isn’t the same for everyone.
The song starts with an acoustic guitar and breathy vocals. The reverb on the vocals and lyrics make it ethereal. ROREY advised fans to listen to “Soho Grand” on headphones if possible, and I’m thinking it’s because the headphones enhance the listening experience. In some cases, producers and artists craft a song with the sound-field in mind, meaning there are different elements of the track that are layered using time-based effects to transport certain sounds into certain sections of the track. You can hear different elements in the left ear and different elements in the right ear. As the song progresses, the instrumentation and production does as well which contributes to the overall emotional aspect. "Soho Grand" is a song that navigates ROREY's experience with mental health and a dark time in her life. Her music helps you get in touch with your own emotions and to truly examine how you feel about things going on in your life.
