Review: "Something About The Weather" - She Is Jules

She Is Jules Something About The Weather Cover Art

She Is Jules’s latest single “Something About The Weather” explores the overwhelming emotional roller coasters that can occur during seasonal changes. As the cool weather grows cold, you begin regretting wishing for the leaves to fall from their trees. The thought of coming unglued from your couch to experience the changing weather consumes you with panic. Everybody else seems to relish in the blinding Christmas lights and festivities, but you only see grey skies and freezing winds. Autumn and winter months are always heavy-weight on your soul and physical well-being, as if developing into a deep seasonal depression. Whenever Spring and Summer pass by, you take time to mentally prepare yourself for those colder months. Although you once enjoyed the brisk cold and festive holidays, you now await the mental lowness of the cold seasons.

“Something About The Weather” is an alt pop single that utilizes electro pop instrumentals and effects. We begin with a pulating synthesizing beat that gradually becomes clearer and clearer. This drops into a crystal clear background instrumental paired alongside She Is Jules’s soft yet encaptivating vocals. These vocals remain clear and are paired with occasional gems of reverberation and electronic modulations. Through the pre-chorus and chorus, percussive elements are incorporated and background harmonies increase. A consistent reverberation remains throughout and increases in presence with each chorus. As these verses kick back in, the reverberation and increased instrumentals briefly cut off. As these drops occur, only brief hints of what was built up shine back through. Each element displayed in this piece curates a unique and mellow musical and narrative experience.
