Life is all about experiencing new things. New experiences with relationships, cities, and careers shape all of us and push us towards growth. Even if these changes can be scary, they can also be exciting - offering you a chance to shed the old and welcome the new. Child's most recent song, "Something New", is extremely inspiring with both its melody and lyrics. The idea of the unknown that comes along with new changes can be worrisome to most people. Child accepts change and desires something new, but still accepts the past and "what has been", too. The lyrics "I don't wanna forget 'cause what has been is nothing to regret. I've simply grown so tired of all I know" sums up the song's meaning perfectly. Even with the experiences of the past, it's good not to focus on "what-ifs" and accept something new.
"Something New" feels like a song that belongs on someone's playlist to their life. It also sounds like the kind of song you would hear during an aesthetic movie montage for a main character driving around with the sun out. You are immediately greeted by a groovy guitar sound at the start of the song and a steady, rhythmic beat. It picks up in tempo when Child's beautiful vocals come in, and creates a more livelier, vibey sound. At the pre-chorus, the beat seems to simmer down a bit, leaving room for Child's angelic vocals to take center stage. The dreamy tone of the pre-chorus becomes more upbeat again during the chorus. The chorus is extremely catchy, with lyrics and a sound that feels inspiring and hopeful. In its entirety, "Something New" is an undeniably addicting song that you find yourself vibing along to.
Child is a young Bernese singer-songwriter who creates beautiful music that is a perfect blend of indie, folk, and pop. All of her songs have relatable lyrics that divulge the ups and downs of life. Child's debut EP was released in November 2021. It featured the song "Draw the Line", which was chosen by SRF3 Radio as the "Song of the Day". Since then, the song has continued to be on the radio program. In August 2023, Child received a big achievement with the Music Loft Award! Child has also been working on multiple collaborations with other talented artists like Luca Aprile and Elija Tamou. Additionally, she has been working with various producers and recording new songs that she plans to release in 2025 or 2026. Child has done a support show for Asgéir (at Mühle Hunziken) and Shem Thomas, and will be having more projects and performances to come in 2025!
