“Sticks and Stones” by BABY B is a song that subverts expectations. It’s not your normal song of empowerment. With lyrics such as “I’ve got a loaded gun,” and “Baby if you hurt me / I might break some bones,” there’s a certain element of danger that is exciting and unique to the artist. Other lyrics such as “And if you think I’m too much / then baby go find less” and “Cause I won’t make your supper / And I can’t make your bed,” speak to an understanding of oneself. This track presents confidence in a reckless and exciting relationship. This track is completely itself, and you won’t find anything like it from any other artist.
The song begins with a catchy drum beat before the vocals enter on top of a guitar harmony. The track opens with the chorus before transitioning into the first verse. Underneath the main melody are vocal harmonies that really fill out the auditory space. The instrumental carries a certain intensity about it that really communicates the message of the song. The vocals float gracefully above the instrumental in an artistic and awe-inspiring way. This track blends chaotic with powerful in an uplifting way. Reckless, empowering, and beautiful are the perfect words to describe this track.
BABY B is the project of Manchester-based songwriter Sarah Blanchard. Blanchard used to write songs for other artists before beginning her own project. BABY B is the outlet for her vulnerable and intimate thoughts and feelings, and audiences everywhere can see themselves reflected in her artistic work.
