Jessmin Stuck in Yesterday Cover Art

In an electric new single, Jessmin discusses the struggles of moving on from a relationship. “Stuck in Yesterday”, released July 31st , is spunky and raw, giving the vibe of an early 2000s movie that opens with a teen in a rock band tee fresh off a breakup. However, as the track progresses, listeners slowly see Jessmin come to terms with this struggle, realizing it might be for the best. “What once felt like a forever kind of love slowly turns into the realization that moving on might be the only way forward”, says Jessmin. This track blends Jessmin’s ability to speak freely about her negative emotions with her punk and fiery soundscape, creating a unique blend that is perfect for this message. Strong, yet also empathetic.

“Stuck in Yesterday” opens right away with lyrics, no intro needed. The first verse describes Jessmin waking up with a jolt, phone half dead, in a coffee stained shirt, looking at old photos of her ex. All in all, a tough position to be in. An electric guitar joins her as she flows into the pre-chorus, now talking about how her friends tell her to “let it go”. Easier said than done. The chorus explodes with a cacophony of pop rock instruments, as she sings “You said forever then you drove away / Guess forever’s just another cliche / And I’m still stuck in yesterday / But maybe I’m better off that way”. The next verse also shows Jessmin down in the dumps, replaying their favorite songs and worst fights, but by the time she reaches the bridge she appears to be coming to a clear. In the bridge, she sings, “I’ll turn the page, I'll bleach my hair / Pretend you never lived up there / In my mind where the mixtapes play / I’ll scream your name then walk away”. This growth is huge for her, and she slowly realizes she can move forward from being stuck in yesterday, one day at a time.

Jessmin, also known as Jessica Mougin, was born in France and raised in the Netherlands. She attended Wisseloord Academy, developing her love for artistry and skill for shaping her own sound at a young age. Her music has turned into a way to talk about her relationships and life experiences, and she prides herself in being real and honest in her works. Jessmin is currently working on her debut EP, where she strives to blend “both the energetic and more personal sides of her music”. With several singles already released, this EP is not one to miss.
