“sunburn” is the newest single from Katherine Cordova, a song about a true love that won’t quit. Summer vibes are exuded all throughout the lyrics as Cordova sings about a significant other that she can’t help but always come back to, because the love they have for each other is just too strong. She feels better around this person and lovestruck for them, and they remind her of better times. Just with the title and lyrics alone, “sunburn” defines itself as a summer anthem of perfection, encapsulated in the idea of love and loss, and the feelings you experience when you know you’ve fallen in love with the one.
Pairing well with the lyrics, the production style of “sunburn” is upbeat and gives off vibes of being the song of the summer. Easy listening and pop are combined to create this sound that is consistent throughout the song, supplemented by the Y2K-inspired drums and acoustic guitar chords. Cordova also has an amazing and distinct singing voice that is perfect for a song like this. Altogether, “sunburn” flawlessly crosses the threshold between pop and alternative music, while still having its own original sound. Vibes of nostalgia bounce off the lyrics and reflect them, as both the lyrics and production exude feelings of love.
Katherine Cordova is an independent singer/songwriter originally from the Bay Area but is now based in Los Angeles, California. She began her own music career in January 2022 at the age of 18 in her senior year of high school with the release of her debut single “I Love You Even Still, Even Now”. She has also released the incredible songs “Blue Light”, “Afraid of the Dark”, and “know you now”, before releasing “sunburn”. Katherine focuses heavily on clever lyricism while using experimental production to create her unique sound. She has also worked with the artist Daniel Roman. Katherine Cordova has extraordinary talent, and it’s shown throughout all of her work.
